I recently graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Statistics. My path was not a standard one; after finishing high school I traveled extensively, finding employment in many different fields and capacities and gaining insight through a breadth and variety of life experiences I would not trade for anything. It was while reflecting upon those values--breadth and variety--that I discovered a love of statistics: as a tool, it unifies the sciences; as a discipline, it grants entry into every avenue of inquiry imaginable (or, in the words of the inimitable John Tukey, "to play in everyone else's backyard"), and instills in its adherents the primary virtues of simplicity, plainness, and not losing ...
