• New rail line to the airport (Kehärata)
opened up for traffic on 1 July 2015

What’s new in the 2015 dataset?
• Results for midday traffic are fully
comparable between the Travel Time
Matrix datasets from 2013 and 2015.
Comparisons in this presentation are
based on midday travel times.
• In addition, the 2015 dataset contains
information for morning rush-hour for
both public transportation and car.
• Furthermore, an additional dataset for
travel-related CO2 emissions can be
linked to the 2015 dataset. More

in the Capital Region (n=13231) in
terms of accessibility by public
transportation and car based on the
Helsinki Region Travel Time Matrix
2013.
• Here, the accessibility of a grid
square is calculated as the median
travel time from all other grid squares
to the particular grid square using the
selected mode of transport.
• ”Hotspot” grid squares that are the
most accessible ones with both car
and public tranpsortation are shown
with purple on the map.

Changes in Public Transport
Accessibility
In the following slides, we visualize the changes in public transport
accessibility between 2013 and 2015 for selected destinations based
on the Helsinki Region Travel Time Matrix datasets.

Highlights:
• Travel times to the Helsinki City Center have become faster from along the
new rail line in Vantaa (compare figures 5 and 6).
• Connections to the Helsinki-Vantaa airport have become better – more people
can travel faster to the airport using public transport (see figure 8 c).
• Transverse trips towards Myyrmäki have become faster (figures 11 and 12),
while some transverse trips have become slower, for example when traveling
towards Tikkurila in Vantaa (figures 13 and 14).

  • 5. What’s new in the 2015 dataset? • Results for midday traffic are fully comparable between the Travel Time Matrix datasets from 2013 and 2015. Comparisons in this presentation are based on midday travel times. • In addition, the 2015 dataset contains information for morning rush-hour for both public transportation and car. • Furthermore, an additional dataset for travel-related CO2 emissions can be linked to the 2015 dataset. The best 10 % of the 250 x 250 m statistic grid squares in the Capital Region in terms of accessibility by public transportation and car in 2015. • This map shows the best 10 % of all the 250 x 250 m statistic grid squares in the Capital Region (n=13231) in terms of accessibility by public transportation and car based on the Helsinki Region Travel Time Matrix 2013. • Here, the accessibility of a grid square is calculated as the median travel time from all other grid squares to the particular grid square using the selected mode of transport. • ”Hotspot” grid squares that are the most accessible ones with both car and public tranpsortation are shown with purple on the map.

Changes in Public Transport Accessibility In the following slides, we visualize the changes in public transport accessibility between 2013 and 2015 for selected destinations based on the Helsinki Region Travel Time Matrix datasets. CONTENTS BACKGROUND REGIONAL CHANGES EXAMPLES REFERENCES Highlights: • Travel times to the Helsinki City Center have become faster from along the new rail line in Vantaa (compare figures 5 and 6). • Connections to the Helsinki-Vantaa airport have become better – more people can travel faster to the airport using public transport (see figure 8 c). • Transverse trips towards Myyrmäki have become faster (figures 11 and 12), while some transverse trips have become slower, for example when traveling towards Tikkurila in Vantaa (figures 13 and 14).
