The pleasant climate makes it a haven for many outdoor activities.
With a population of just over 4 million, and the last landmass
to be discovered, New Zealand is one of the youngest and least
crowded countries on earth.
The country is famous for its clean, green scenery, extreme sports,
its indigenous Maori culture, the iconic national rugby team ‘All
Blacks’, being the filming location for Hollywood classics such as
‘Lord of the Rings’ and so much more. Throughout the world, New
Zealanders have a reputation for being honest, friendly, relaxed
and welcoming. Combined with New Zealand’s high standard of
education, you will find that this is a great place to study.
‘Kia ora!’ is a greeting from the native Maori people that
literally means ‘Live on!’ Why study in New Zealand? Because
it is a country where you can feel alive!

Career Opportunities
Counselling is a growing
profession in New
Zealand and around
the world.
It is a rewarding experience working with
individuals or groups to change cognitions
and behaviours and to assist them in healing
their emotional, psychological and spiritual
concerns.
Embarking on a counselling course is likely
to transform how you think and express
yourself. It is a commitment to self-
improvement as well as a commitment to
engaging in good quality relationships with
others.
The New Zealand Institute of Professional
Counselling (NZIPC) is New Zealand’s
leading provider of counselling training. The
Diploma of Professional Counselling provides
students with the necessary skills to become
an effective counsellor. The standard of our
counsellor education is exceptionally high,
and all of the academic team are qualified
in behavioural science, psychotherapy or
another appropriate discipline.
Counselling Modalities
The diploma teaches a person-centred
approach which develops and uses the
‘core conditions’ of empathy, congruence
and unconditional positive regard to
create a climate conductive to growth
and therapeutic change. The approach is
non-directive and collaborative, building a
therapeutic relationship between client and
Professional Counselling
counsellor. The client self directs – which has led to the term ‘person-centred’. The other
modalities you will be learning in this diploma course are behavioural, gestalt, cognitive-
behavioural, and solution focused techniques.
Workshops & Industry Visits
What makes the programme unique is that it includes numerous practical components,
including face to face counselling, seminars, workshops and industry visits where students
get hands-on experience.
Vocational Practice
The purpose of the Vocational Practice is to assist you in bringing the knowledge of counselling
therapies and skills into practice by working with your clients face to face. Student counsellors
will need to complete 200 hours of face to face counselling. Clinical supervision is required
for every 10 counselling sessions and a maximum of 20 supervision sessions are included in
your course fees.
18
“I have worked as a Counselling Tutor for NZIPC since the
diploma was launched. I am very happy to be able to support
so many students and I feel like I am really making a positive

A landlord will normally request a bond (1-4 weeks of rent)
as security, and then 1-2 weeks rent in advance. If rented via
an agency, there may also be an agency fee to pay. For more
information about renting houses in New Zealand, please
contact the New Zealand Tenancy Services - www.dbh.govt.nz.
For many students, staying at a hotel, hostel or homestay during
the first weeks is a popular option, as it gives new students
plenty of time to get settled and then look for a place to rent.
For more information on these and other accommodation
options, please visit our website under www.qegroup.co.nz/
accommodation/.

acc.co.nz.
Accredited Courses
All of QE Group’s study programmes are approved and
accredited by external examination bodies.
Accredited Providers
QE Group is a group of private training providers; our
institutions in New Zealand are divisions of Quantum
Education Group Ltd (NZQA provider code 8441) and
Quantum Education Group QT Ltd (NZQA provider code
8740), which are both recognised and accredited by the
New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). Further
details as well as a copy of our latest NZQA external
evaluation and review (EER) report are available at www.
nzqa.govt.nz.
Attendance
In accordance with the Code of Practice and as a
requirement for student visas, QE Group will monitor
student attendance. Students must attend their course
at all times, unless they have genuine reasons and
evidence for their absence, failure to do so may result
in withdrawal from your course. Students who fail
to satisfy visa conditions relating to attendance or
academic performance are reported to the New Zealand
Immigration Service.
Code
QE Group has agreed to observe and be bound by the
Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International
Students. Copies of the Code are available from the
NZQA website at www.nzqa.govt.nz.
Complaints and Concerns
QE Group has a Student Concerns and Formal
Complaints Policy. A flow chart summarising this
process is included on the QE Group website.
Support is available from the International Office, or
the International Education Appeal Authority (IEAA)
if a student feels their complaint has not been
addressed.
Course Duration
Course durations are either stated in weeks or
academic years. The duration of an academic year
varies between 8 to 12 months depending on the
course of study and the start date. Please enquire for
further information.
Credit Transfer
Credit transfer is a process whereby the granting of
credits gained in one programme is seen as being
equivalent or relevant to those required in another.
The credits may have been gained at QE Group
or through another accredited provider. Please
apply to the International Office for credit transfer
consideration.
Eligibility for Health Services
Most international students are not entitled to publicly
funded health services while in New Zealand. If you
receive medical treatment during your visit, you may
be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details
on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are
available through the Ministry of Health, and can be
viewed on their website at www.moh.govt.nz.
English Language Proficiency
Non-English speakers require a minimum IELTS level
specified for the relevant course of study. Alternative
evidence includes TOEFL, FCE, CAE or NSCEL, please
enquire for further details. Students must submit the
required English proficiency evidence as part of their
application. We reserve the right to internally assess
the student’s English level upon arrival at the school. If
this is found to be below that declared upon enrolment,
additional training will be offered at the student’s own
cost.
Entry Requirements
Please refer to the entry requirements specified for the
relevant course of study. For the NZDipBus, students are
required to hold a secondary school certificate meeting
the required minimum pass rates, please refer to our
website for full details: www.qegroup.co.nz/131/new-
zealand-diploma-in-business-level-6/
Fee Protection Policy
QE Group student fees are protected against default
of the education provider. For courses in New Zealand,
QE Group students’ fees will be paid initially into a
Public Trust account, and will be administered by
an independent trustee. Public Trust will pay fees to
QE Group in accordance with a payment schedule
authorised by the student. Please note that any course
extensions granted by QE Group are not covered by fee
protection. For full details on our Fee Protection Policy,
please visit our website.
Homestay Accommodation
QE Group sources and vets all homestay families in
Kerikeri, acting only as an introductory service between
students and the families. QE Group does not accept
any liability for incidences or issues arising between
homestay families and students. All payments are to be
made directly to the homestay family and not via the QE
Group. Students must give 10 days advanced notice of
their flight details, otherwise they may have to find an
alternate accommodation for the first 72 hours.
Homestay accommodation in Auckland is arranged
through homestay agency Host Families New Zealand
(HFNZ). Any homestay placement fees, airport pick-up
and weekly fees are to be arranged between the student
and the homestay agency.
Immigration
Full details of immigration requirements, advice on
rights to employment in New Zealand while studying,
and reporting requirements are available from
Immigration New Zealand, and can be viewed on their
website at www.immigration.govt.nz.

Information for International Students
26
Important Information
You can find the Course Prospectus, Student Handbook,
Refund and Fee Protection Policy, Code of Practice, the
Declaration of Possible Conflicts of Interest, Student
Concern Form and Process and medical insurance
information on our website under www.qegroup.co.nz/
downloads/. Please contact us if you require any of these
documents to be sent to you.
Medical and Travel Insurance
International students must have appropriate and current
medical and travel insurance while studying in New
Zealand. You can organise this policy from home or apply
for a policy through QE Group. Evidence will be required
if a student has already arranged their own insurance,
which needs to meet the guidelines set out in the Code
of Practice.
Orientation
All students new to QE Group must attend an orientation
prior to starting their classes. This programme is designed
to introduce you to the relevant school and location, so
that you can better settle into your studies.
Pastoral Care
We have a dedicated team of student support staff to
assist students to transition easily into their studies
and living in New Zealand. Students will be assigned a
pastoral care officer who will be able to provide them with
immediate advice or help. Students can also ring our 24-
hour pastoral care number (0800 734 687) for all pastoral
care matters and support.
Payment of Fees
Upon successful application, students will receive
an invoice outlining the applicable tuition, resource,
insurance and other fees. All applicable fees must be paid
in full before the commencement of your programme. For
2-year programmes, payment can be done in instalments
per academic year. Non-payment of fees is regarded
seriously and QE Group will take steps to obtain the
required payment, including prohibiting students from
class, not releasing academic results, and referring unpaid
debts to a debt collection agency for recovery action.
Police Checks
Students enrolling on our counselling courses are required
to submit police certificates for all countries they have
resided in for more than 6 months during the last 5 years.
Privacy Act
The Privacy Act is designed to protect individual privacy
and restrict access to personal information, such as
information you give on application and enrolment.
QE Group follows the rules of the Privacy Act in all our
day-to-day activities, in relation to the collection, use
and disclosure of personal information, as well as in
relation to the right of students to access any personal
information we hold about those students.
Programme and Course Cancellation
Programmes may be cancelled or postponed at the
discretion of QE Group from time to time (including
during the academic year) for a variety of reasons,
including but not limited to lack of enrolments and
financial constraints. The content and configuration of
programmes and courses are subject to change from
time to time, including during the academic year, at the
discretion of QE Group.
Public Holidays
Please note that no classes are held on public holidays
and no compensation is given.

academic credit for relevant skills, knowledge or abilities
gained through formal or informal education, work or
life experience. Further information on QE Group’s RPL

here. Please contact the International Department for
religious information regarding facilities, social groups
and sessions in your area.
Student Visas
International students are required to have a valid
student visa during their stay in New Zealand for
courses over 3 months in duration. Once you have paid
the applicable fees for your programme of study, QE
Group will provide you with a payment receipt, which
will be required as part of your student visa application.
You can then apply for a student visa at your nearest
Immigration New Zealand Office. QE Group will
support current enrolled students in obtaining student
visa renewals if required. QE Group does not give
immigration or visa advice; please refer all enquiries to
Immigration New Zealand.

a student visa and can submit written evidence of
this, programme fees will be refunded in full, less the
applicable administration fee.
Working while Studying
Students may apply to work part-time for up to 20 hours
per week on student visas during most courses. Please
contact Immigration New Zealand for full details.

  • 18. Counselling is a growing profession in New Zealand and around the world. It is a rewarding experience working with individuals or groups to change cognitions and behaviours and to assist them in healing their emotional, psychological and spiritual concerns. Embarking on a counselling course is likely to transform how you think and express yourself. It is a commitment to self- improvement as well as a commitment to engaging in good quality relationships with others. The New Zealand Institute of Professional Counselling (NZIPC) is New Zealand’s leading provider of counselling training. The Diploma of Professional Counselling provides students with the necessary skills to become an effective counsellor. The standard of our counsellor education is exceptionally high, and all of the academic team are qualified in behavioural science, psychotherapy or another appropriate discipline. Counselling Modalities The diploma teaches a person-centred approach which develops and uses the ‘core conditions’ of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard to create a climate conductive to growth and therapeutic change. The approach is non-directive and collaborative, building a therapeutic relationship between client and Professional Counselling counsellor. The client self directs – which has led to the term ‘person-centred’. The other modalities you will be learning in this diploma course are behavioural, gestalt, cognitive- behavioural, and solution focused techniques. Workshops & Industry Visits What makes the programme unique is that it includes numerous practical components, including face to face counselling, seminars, workshops and industry visits where students get hands-on experience. Vocational Practice The purpose of the Vocational Practice is to assist you in bringing the knowledge of counselling therapies and skills into practice by working with your clients face to face. Student counsellors will need to complete 200 hours of face to face counselling. Clinical supervision is required for every 10 counselling sessions and a maximum of 20 supervision sessions are included in your course fees. 18 “I have worked as a Counselling Tutor for NZIPC since the diploma was launched. I am very happy to be able to support so many students and I feel like I am really making a positive difference in the world.
