2. BLUE AMMONIA PLANTS WORLWIDE
BLUE AMMONIA:
Blue ammonia is ammonia used as feedstock to make blue
hydrogen. Blue hydrogen is made from fossils fuel through a process that capture
and stores the carbon dioxide produced rather than release into atmosphere.
The use of ammonia could help in developing cleaner and affordable and more
sustainable energy. Ammonia is made up of 18% hydrogen which is enough fuel to
be used as a clean energy source. The ammonia is created by harvesting
hydrocarbons and converting them into hydrogen and ammonia which can then be
burned in power generation plants.
3. BLUE AMMONIA PLANTS WORLWIDE
Saudi Arabia – Japan’s Deal:
Saudi Arabia has sent the first shipment of Blue Ammonia to japan for
use in power generation. The Saudi-Japanese collaboration is part of pilot project by the institute of
Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ) and oil company Saudi Aramco in partnership with Saudi basic
industries.
Blue ammonia value chain between siberia and japan:
Toyo engineering corp. (Tokyo), Irkutsk oil company (IOC), japan oil, gas
and metals national corp. (JOGMEC) Agreed on A joint feasibility study related to the development of
the blue ammonia value chain between eastern Siberia and japan. Blue ammonia is co2-free ammonia
produced by conventional ammonia production processes with CCS (CO2 capture and storage) to
isolate CO2 into underground reservoirs.
4. CONTINUE………
The project aims to establish a future blue ammonia value chain at a commercial
scale. Ammonia is liquefied under relatively mild conditions, (around –33 deg. C)
in ambient pressure, or 8.5 atm in ambient temperature. Since this condition is
similar to that of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) liquefaction, ammonia can be
stored and transported with similar infrastructure for LPG storage and
transportation. Ammonia is expected to be used as fuel for power plants that
require huge amount of energy. The parties are willing to prepare a new option for
energy security between Russia and japan by establishing a new value chain which
transports ammonia produced in Russia to be utilized as fuel in japan.
5. CONTINUE……
Toyo, IOC, JOGMEC and ITOCHU will contribute to establish blue ammonia
value chain between eastern Siberia and japan through close collaboration among
the parties by utilizing the technologies and knowledge owned and promoting
initiatives to reduce Green house gases by introducing blue ammonia as fuel.
