Pedagogy TLS
What is TPACK?
It is a Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge? It is a theory that
was developed to explain the set of knowledge that teachers need to teach
their students a subject, teach effectively, and use technology.
1. Content : What teachers know?
2. Pedagogy: How teachers teach?
3. Technology: How technology is used?
the point of TPACK is to
understand how to use
technology to teach
concepts in a way that
enhances student
learning experiences.
Common TPACK elements
TK+CK=TCK
PK+CK+PCK
TK+PK=TPK
For Example
CK
TK
LMS
you might still subject your
students to an entire online
course of text-based PDFs.
While this is an adequate display of both content and technical
knowledge, you could argue that it is not enhancing the learning
experience. However, if you recognized how your content could be
presented in more interactive and engaging digital mediums—e.g.,
video, class discussion, game, etc.—and you knew how to make that
happen via your LMS, then you just leveled up to Technical Content
Knowledge (TCK).
CK=Content knowledge
Your expertise and understandings about subject area
Whether it is the:
Science
Math
Physics
Social Studies etc
PK=Pedagogy Knowledge
How your expertise of content knowledge turned into pedagogical approaches?
Use of effective teaching approaches
Teaching instructions
Teaching styles like PBL, inquiry based, critical thinking, and socrates etc.
Teaching strategies
Assessment
PCK=Pedagogical Content Knowledge
It is the intersection of PK and CK
It addresses that how to engage students effectively using content knowledge
through various teaching styles.
Like teaching about H2O. Teacher should share deeper understandings with
students by using various teaching methods. Similarly, math, history,
geography, Biology etc.
TK=Technological Knowledge
It represents the knowledge about tools
For instance: Mobile, Ipad, laptop, and computers.
Teachers should know:
How to use?
How to integrate?
What are resources are useful?
What are the various learning platforms that help students in learning?
Quality of content as well as.
Easy access for the students
TCK=Technological Content knowledge
Technology used in subject area for further understandings.
Science: Use different observation by using technology
Geography: Using digital maps, weather forecasting devices, etc
Computer: Robots
Use of variety of application to understand better.
TPK=Technological Pedagogical Knowledge
Use of technology in teaching. (collaboration, interactions, etc)
Using technology to enhance learning.
What tools will help students analysis te data?
What applications will be useful to understand the difference between virus and
bacteria?
Use of the images, vidoes, digital worksheets and more in order to help in
student’s deeper understandings.
