This document provides an overview of the design thinking process. It explains that design thinking is both an ideology and process that takes approaches designers use to solve complex problems in a user-centric way. The design thinking process involves 5 key phases - empathizing to understand users, defining the problem, ideating potential solutions, prototyping ideas, and testing prototypes with users. Each phase utilizes various tools to gather insights, generate ideas, and refine solutions into prototypes to solve "wicked problems" in an innovative way focused on the end user.
2. Design Thinking is both an ideology and
process; it’s all about solving complex problems
in user-centric way. Design thinking was
created as a taking the processes and
approaches that designers use and applying
them to problems that designers use and
applying them to problem that designers don’t
typically encounter.
What is design thinking?
3. Noun | wi-ked | pra-blem
A problem that is difficult or impossible to solve
because of incomplete, contradictory, and
changing requirement that are often difficult to
recongnize.
5. “Design thinking draws on logic,
imagination, intuition and systemic
reasoning to explore the possibilities of
what could be, and to create desired
outcomes that benefit thr end user (the
customer).
A design mind-set is not problem-
focused, it’s solution-focused, and
action-oriented. It involves both
analysis and imagination. ”
7. Phase 1
empathize
Tools
This phase is sent simply getting
to know the user and the problem
they face. You observe and
engage with the people using your
product to better understand them
on a emotional and psychological
level.

8. Phase 2
define
Tools
This is where you define the user’s
needs and problem. You’ll gather
all your insights from the
empathize phase and start to
make sense of them. Armed with
this data synthesis you will be able
to create a problem statement.

9. Phase 3
IDEATE
Tools
At this point it’s time to get
creative. This where you begin
generating ideas for innovative
solutions. No idea is a bad idea.
Two Steps: Create and decide on
an idea.

10. Phase 4
prototype
Tools
Now you turn your idea into
tangible Products a rough model
or sketch. Prototype are basically a
scaled down version of your
product. Depend on how users
respond your prototype may be
rejected, reconstructed or
accepted.

11. Phase 5
test
Tools
This where you test your solutions.
Invite users to test out and
respond to your prototype. Their
responses will inform whether you
move forward or kill your idea
before investing additional
resources.
