2. It used to be that wedding proposals were exclusively carried out by the men.
Before a man would pop the question, he would take up the task of selecting
the ring that best suits his significant other.
Today, women influencing (or leading) the ring selection has become quite the
new norm. More brides-to-be are taking active roles in their engagement. In
fact, a number of them are researching their wants and dropping hints for their
husbands-to-be. With the engagement ring spend rising, men are putting more
time, thought, and energy into buying the perfect ring for a memorable
proposal.
What Studies Say
British online newspaper Mail Online
reported about a survey claiming that as
many as one in every three women who
say yes to a marriage proposal were
involved in the purchase of the ring.
When proposed to with a ring they do
not like, a number insist on changes or
buying a new one entirely. Unhappy
brides-to-be demand a ring change
before fully committing to the proposal,
says the study.
3. Another study by The Knot, a US-based
wedding source, revealed that a majority
of brides know the cost of their rings. 67
percent of them researched their rings
prior to their engagement through their
mobile phones. 80 percent of the men
revealed that their partner constantly
dropped hints while, 71 percent of
women admitted to being open about it.
Of the 71 percent, 51 percent of the
women hinted the styles they wanted
while shopping. 36% took a bold move
and told their partner what they wanted,
while 11% took a subtle approach by
leaving ads around the house.
The Stones Women Love
While diamonds are still a girl’s best friend, a study found an increase in non-
diamond engagement rings. Today, women are attracted to gemstone alternatives
due to their traditional meanings. Choosing a gemstone promises a special
significance to both parties, which creates a unique ring with a built-in layer of
meaning.
Some women would choose onyx, garnet, and emerald over the traditional diamond
ring.
4. Why Women Choose
Most women still wish to be surprised when it comes to the ring. The proposal,
however, comes with a risk of ending up with the wrong ring. This is one of the
reasons why women prefer to have a say in their engagement ring. People
have varying tastes and the preferences between men and women are entirely
different.
Men still choose the ring for themselves, but today, women are taking a more
active role to ensure choices they will not regret.
