accelerated the merger of all
peoples.
843: He reigned
over the Scots and

Malcolm II
achieved the
Scottish unity.
 The rise of the Scottish monarchy (1124-
1328).
1124-1153: During the
reign of David I, Scotland
received the English
influence and developed
feudalism.
1286- 1292: When
Alexander III died,
Alexander I of England
imposed a protectorate
in Scotland.
1296: Wallace and
Robert I Bruce were
opposed to this
conquest.
1314: The Bannockburn victory
consolidated the Scottish cause.
1328: The Treaty of
Northampton recognized the
independence of Scotland.
 Scotland of the Stuarts (Century XIV-
1707).
Centuries XIV-XV: The
Stuarts joined the French in
the Hundred Years War.
Scotland had internal
convulsions.
Century XVI: The religious reform of
John Knox got adepts between the

the Catholic monarchy.
1567: Mary Stuart
abdicated in his son James
VI.

 Scotland is a highland country,
especially in the north (Grampian
Mountains and Highlands), but
the population is concentrated in
the Lowlands.
 The main language of Scotland is English. Celtic
languages and Germanic languages have been
spoken in the past as well as today.The only Celtic
language that is preserved is Scottish Gaelic. Also
we can find other two languages: Scottish and
Scotland English.

 The main religion of Scotland is Christianity.
Formerly Protestantism and Calvinism were the
main religions. Islam is the most important non-
Christian religion in Scotland.
The Iona Abbey. It’s
considered the cradle of
Christianity.
 Scottish food is simple, uses native products
and rejects the use of spices or herbs. Here
are some examples of Scottish food:


The Johnnie Walker Whisky.
 Football, rugby and golf are the most popular
games in Scotland.
 The most popular sport of Scotland is the
football. Scottish people play football since
1424.
 Saint Andrews is a very old city of Scotland.
Golf was born here. The “Old Course of St.
Andrews” is considered the oldest golf
course.
 Highland Games are events that take place
throughout the year. Scottish people
celebrate with this games the Scottish and
Celtic cultures.
