While our focus is on developing privacy-enabling technologies for Europe, we also understand the digital society spans international borders and in terms of sustainability in a global market, such technology needs to be adaptable for markets outside of Europe. We would like the opportunity to leverage our experience in the Japanese IT industry to form new alliances and gain the chance to test our technology in the Japanese IT industry and commercial landscape. We are interested in joining or forming a consortium to tackle either of the defined call areas, but would have a preference for area 2) Interoperable technologies of the IoT devices/platforms in the context of Smart Cities. We offer our technologies currently under development as well as our expertise in privacy-by-design principles and perspectives of market-entry barriers in Europe for the digital market. Cloud-computing is in its early growth stages, large corporate enterprises being earlier adopters. Market activity across Africa appears supply-side driven rather than demand-side driven. Exception is South Africa where demand is arising from the private sector. SMEs and the public sector without legacy IT assets can be greatest beneficiaries. Cloud providers are mostly global US-based players with some local presence. A number of South African based companies like Dimension Data and Internet Solutions are competing aggressively by providing services on the continent. Local IT providers and telcos typically compete with global brands within the cloud market. Public sector usage is limited though the governments of Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria are beginning to explore public cloud solutions

In almost every conversation, I’m astounded by the amount of folks who mention the recent disruption that’s occurred in this industry. As the old adage goes: “…the only constant has been change.” Digital disruption has fueled digital transformation, and with the proliferation of companies offering broader arrays of services, enterprises are scrambling to keep up and offer newer and better things. There’s been major consolidation across Telco and Media, and the fight for audience and revenue is more fierce than ever. As we have seen in these last few weeks, there have been industry changing merger talks between Warner Media and Discovery, Bouygues and M6 Groupe from Bertelsmann, and even Amazon and MGM. While we’re proud and confident in our most recent acquisitions, it’s safe to say that the competition is heating up.
