3. Before, and after Christmas day
• Before Christmas day, we, the Catalans,
prepare a Nativity scene, with the baby Jesus
in the crib Maria and Joseph in the stable,
and the three Wise Men coming to it. Every
day that Christmas approaches , we move the
three Wise Men to the stable, step by step.
And the day that the three Wise Men arrive at
the stable, is the Three Wise Men Day. On 6th
of January (Epiphany).
4. Christmas Day
• On Christmas Day, we have lunch with our
families, we sing Christmas carols, and we
have a very nice lunch; with a big chicken,
pasta soup, chocolates... There are
decorations in all the house, red candles…
A very nice day.
• And of course, we can
not miss gifts for everyone.
6. What is the Tió?
• Tió is a Catalan tradition that is: you hit
the Tió, and it will give you presents.
• We hit it on Christmas Day.
• The Tió is a log, with a red hat, two
legs, two eyes, a nose and a mouth (as
you can see in the picture)
• We put a blanket on it to cover the
body.
7. What does the Tió give?
• The Tió gives presents, normally it
leaves nougats, chocolates, candies, or
little presents.
9. The Three Wise Men
• The three Wise Men is a tradition
around the world. The night of 5th of
January, the three Wise Men come to
all the houses of the world giving
presents.
• You write a list of the presents that you
you want, and they leave
• you them under the tree.
• Only if you were a good
