PEO ammo better buying power nets more than $6 billion in
savings PICATINNY, N.J. -- Since 2010, the Program Executive Office Ammunition at Picatinny
has saved the Army more than $6 billion through better buying power (BBP) initiatives aimed at
strengthening buying power, improving industry productivity, and providing affordable military
capabilities.
Contracting brigade stands up at Fort Hood JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-
FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas -- Officials from the Mission and Installation Contracting Command
activated the 418th Contracting Support Brigade during a ceremony, July 10, at Fort Hood,
Texas. The activation follows attachment of contracting Soldiers to the Mission and Installation
Contracting Command in April, as part of an integration with contracting centers and offices
throughout the Army Contracting Command and MICC that began in March.

ASC trains Soldiers for life in combat zone ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. --
The Army Sustainment Command recently conducted a three-week pre-deployment training
session for about 50 commissioned and noncommissioned officers heading overseas to fill
positions in its brigades in Afghanistan and Kuwait.
ACC-NCR cases colors ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The Army Contracting Command-National
Capital Region contracting center here cased its colors July 11, signifying its inactivation.
The Army announced the center's closure in November and estimates the move will save about
$13 million annually, once the transition is complete. The savings will be achieved through
increased efficiencies, reduced facilities and information technology costs, reduced turnover and
reduced locality pay as the positions are moved outside the National Capital Region.
Ceremony formally closes Deseret Chemical Depot DESERET, Utah. --
In a special U.S. military ceremony, Deseret Chemical Depot (DCD) formally was closed July 11.
Yet with hundreds of workers - both government and contractors - still employed here, the
gates remain open. U.S. Army officials are calling it a transfer of property - taking DCD's 19,000-
plus acres and transferring them to nearby Tooele Army Depot (TEAD).

ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, ILL. -- The Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology
Center Commander Col. James O. Fly, Jr., was in command for more than 34 months. His
tenure ended on July 11, when he turned the command over to Col. David J. Luders.
