  1. It works because behind it there is a lot of data. That data allows programs to interact with the map, to create new maps, and to modify the map to be used with different devices.
  2. Portable; adapt themselves to new technologies
  3. What do we need to do to move from the ‘printed map’ version of library catalogs to the digital map version?
  4. Reason to talk about SemWeb: SW community is thinking about how to do metadata on the Web. Standards for metadata so that it can be shared.
  5. Another way to organize the same informationThings and links: are what the web is made ofWhy do this with our data? Why not leave it the way it is? Because, as data, it has much more value than we are currently getting out of it.
