Big Data is Transforming the World
Big Data is one of the most talked about topics in industry, research and government
It is becoming an integral part of enterprise IT ecosystem across major verticals including agriculture, education, energy, entertainment, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing and finance
Significant business opportunity for Cisco partners and customers
The PowerAI strategy is we create an enterprise software distribution of the open source machine learning / deep learning frameworks and add value around them.
We add ease of use tools on top of the frameworks and performance enhancements underneath them.
Since training or teaching an AI model or brain to recognize an image or a pattern, takes hours and sometimes days to run, our 3-4x performance benefits means that we can reduce this training time down from hours to minutes.
The ease of tools we add are things that help data scientists do auto-tuning of AI models, and enable them to run larger AI models. We also integrate with IBM Data Science Experience (DSX), which is leading data scientist development tool, that gives us data management & model management.
For performance, we are releasing a new Distributed Deep Learning (DDL) library that scales out deep learning to 100s of Power servers with GPUs. Currently, the open source AI frameworks work best only on a single server, so this is new technology that came out of IBM Research that will enable training times to go down from weeks and days to hours. Massive improvement in data scientist productivity
Another software in our portfolio is PowerAI Vision, that is a complete auto-deep learning workflow for videos and images (vision)
PowerAI Vision is a GUI based AI software
You start by using the GUI to label your images or video frames
Then click on “Build Model” and the software automatically picks a deep learning (DL) model, trains it, shows you the progress via graphs, etc
It automatically picks the hyper-parameters for the DL models
Once the model is trained, PowerAI Vision produces a REST API, or can also target embedded GPUs or FPGAs (for drones, cars, etc)
PowerAI Vision automatically builds a trained deep learning AI model given a labelled video or image data set. PowerAI Vision also generates a REST API for inference that can run on CPUs or GPUs or FPGAs, and can also map to several embedded devices, including FPGAs
IBM PowerAI Vision provides a clicker tool for Subject matter experts to bring data and train AI models for classification. In this slide, you see the ability to label images and train models to classify various assets of a Power tower. You also notice the products ability to be trained for classifying damaged assets.
