Social Star Awards
Celebrating the social world with a dazzle of celebrities
at MasterCard® Theatres
Singapore (May 27, 2013) – Marina Bay Sands was the honor host of the first-ever
Social Star Awards at the MasterCard® Theatres which were streamed “live‟ globally
on YouTube from Singapore on May 23.
The Social Star Awards represented the first gala ever held in recognition of the
stars in the social sphere, taking into account all that the social community around
the world shares, likes, follows and Tweets every day.
The Hollywood actors Jessica Alba and Jeremy Piven were the hosts of a fantastic
celebration in which 12 international superstars were honored. Some of the award
categories presented on the night included “Most Popular Actor”, “Music Group”,
“Solo Artist”, “Sports Team” and “Movie”. The biggest award of the night “THE
ALMIGHTY” was given to the most popular celebrity or brand across all countries
and categories.
The event was the culmination of 24 hours of live awards, which began online on 22
May and included 288 categories spanning different countries worldwide, awarded to
the most popular personalities and brands in fields such as music, movies,
television, sports and games.
The Social Star Awards Starts took to Singapore an electrifying line up of
international celebrities including American rock icons Aerosmith, soul-pop singer
CeeLo Green, global phenomenon, PSY, Canadian breakout pop star Carly Rae
Jepsen, popular dance-pop act LMFAO's Sky Blu and Asian girl group Blush. Other
celebrities that attended the celebration were the actor George Takei from Star Trek,
singer of R&B Eric Benet and house music DJ Seb Fontaine, among others.
The night started with the unrepeatable red carpet walked by international artists
such as PSY, Carly Rae Jepsen, CeeLo Green, Jermaine Jackson, George Takei
and legendary Aerosmith. Members of the public could also see Youtube stars
Harlem Shake, Hikakin, Tummy Talk, Marquese Scott, Ryan Higga, Wrecking Crew
and PewDiePie.

2. Not content with one world exclusive (it was the first time ever honoring the stars of
the social world), the Social Star Awards presented yet another world first in the form
of the very first Harlem Shake to be performed and broadcast LIVE on YouTube
featuring the 4 original Harlem Shakers themselves. Korean PSY, in addition, closed
the show with a sensational performance of the song and dance that propelled him
to internet infamy, Gangnam Style.
Big winners on the night were, globally, Justin Bieber for Most Popular Solo Artist,
One Direction for Most Popular Music Group, Selena Gomez for Most Popular
Actress, FC Barcelona for Most Popular Sports Team, Cristiano Ronaldo for Most
Popular Sportsman, Twilligt for Most Popular Movie, the show of Ellen DeGeneres
for Most Popular TV Show and PewdiePie for Most Popular Social Show. The award
for the Most Popular Show was for Candy Crush Saga and Samsung mobile was
awarded for Most Popular Brand.
As far as Spain was concerned, the awards were given to: Fernando Alonso for F1
Driver, FC Barcelona for Sports Team and La Liga Football Team, David Villa for
Sportsperson, Pocoyo for TV Show and finally Enrique Iglesias for Spanish Musician
and Country.
