The crania from Asia and Africa show morphological differences in several views. The Asian crania Sangiran 17 and Trinil have a more elongated shape from the anterior view compared to the African crania KNM-ER 3733, Bouri, and OH9. However, the variations in cranial shape could plausibly occur within a single species, as the differences are minor and do not definitively warrant distinguishing the Asian and African specimens as separate species.
