Dear Sponsor:
Greetings from Texas!
The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) is holding its 32nd
Annual Convention from June 25-29, 2014 in the beautiful city of San Antonio, Texas.
It is with great pleasure that we invite you as a well-wisher and supporter to this
event. Physicians attending this convention will benefit not only from cutting-edge
CME, but also the camaraderie of their alumni groups and share in our common
heritage.
The convention will be held at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center and Grand
Hyatt San Antonio, both located on the River Walk. Vendor satisfaction and comfort
are our top priorities. The Exhibit Hall, with its unique design and booth layout, will
be the hub for several activities. Breakfast, pavilions for Alliance focusing on healthy
living, AAPI Charitable Foundation to showcase the rural health clinics in India, sports
arena for table tennis, and a stage for lectures, demonstrations, Fashion Show and
many other interesting activities are all designed to keep attendees in the Exhibit
Hall.
In the Exhibit Hall, you will have the opportunity to hold non-CME presentations and
âProduct Theatresâ. There will be no concurrent activities, including CME programs,
to maximize attendance at your events.
The attached prospectus enumerates the composition of our group of generalists as
well as specialists working in the trenches, in medically underserved areas or in the
academic centers expanding the frontiers of science. It also lists our contributions to
American medicine, given that a physician of Indian origin sees every 7th patient in
this country. The AAPI Charitable Foundation does a phenomenal job in supporting
many clinics in rural India while members of AAPI component chapters operate
clinics to help the poor and needy in this country.
Please visit the website www.aapiconvention.org/sanantonio for more details, or call
the AAPI Office for further information.
See you in San Antonio.

3. Celebrating 32 Years of Excellence
Where We Were
AAPI was founded in the midst of challenges that physicians of Indian Origin faced due to
cultural barriers and bias against international medical graduates. Those barriers created
obstacles for immigration and licensing opportunities. In 1982 a group of concerned medical
professionals founded the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin with a simple
goal to work for a level playing field for the international medical graduates.
Today, the organization is a dynamic body, spearheading legislative agendas and influencing the
advancement of medical care in the US and globally through advocating for increasing physician
work force, participating in national health initiatives such as obesity prevention and investing
in global health education.
Where We Are
American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) is the largest non-profit ethnic
medical organization in the United States. It represents the interests of over 60,000 practicing
physicians and 20,000 medical students, residents, and fellows of Indian origin in the United States.
It also serves as an umbrella organization for over 160 component associations situated in every
state. AAPI members have been practicing in inner city medically underserved locations, rural
communities around the country and urban areas. Every one in seven patients in the country is
seen by an Indian physician. Indian physicians form an impressive number in academics renowned
for teaching excellence, cutting edge research and patient care.
National Reach Through Component Chapters
AAPI serves as an umbrella organization for a network of over 160 component chapters; alumni,
state and regional chapter associations, and specialty organizations. These Associations are
located in 12 regions across the United States, each with a Regional Director on the AAPI
Executive Committee who is responsible for communication and coordination of local events
and activities.

that will count for Ethics CME that can fulfill mandatory
medical licensure renewal requirements in most states.

Our Foundation was designed to provide an infrastructure support system for
needy patients in India with two main goals: first goal was to commit their time
and resources to support the clinics for the indigent; and our second goal was
to monitor effectively the clinicsâ progress and be accountable for the overall
success of the project.
AAPI-CF oversees 15 clinics in as many states, including Andhra Pradesh,
Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab,
Orissa, and Tamil Nadu. The clinics vary in size and type with an average of
20,000 patients being treated at the clinic facilities every year. In fact, more than
