What is Matariki. 1)What is Matariki?Well the first thing I would like to say is Matariki has 2 different means which referring to the tiny constellation of stars well Mata riki means Tiny Eye & Mata ariki means eye of god Matariki is the Maori name for the group of stars known has the seven sister which also means the Maori new year and Matariki can be seen on the last few days of may every year and why is Matariki so important to Maori people today well it means to celebrate the unique place we live and which we give respect to the beautiful land we all live on and many iwis celebrate Matariki at different time like when Matariki is first seen in the dawn sky, for others it is celebrated after the full moon rises, and for others the dawn of the next new moon.
3. What dose 2)What dose Matariki signify? Well it signify the traditional Maori new year an during that time there is a sighting of the next new moon which a occurs during June an the brighter the stars are the warmer the season will be for us Matariki also represents how the coming year would be in regard to the size of the harvest days which help them to get them so prepared so that the year would be successful for them, during that time it was a good time for all the families and children too come together to learn about there trees, crops and environment that was surrounding them, there for the Maori people really loved there land they used there land for making shelter, harvesting fields not just for one family for everyone that they loved and also they were really hard works not like some people. Matariki signify.
4. How is Matariki Celebrated 3)How is Matariki celebrated? Well sometimes our school Te Kura O Te Hapua School celebrate matariki by having a big feast also we do a Kapa Haka performance because it helps remember the ones that we loved so much that have passed on during our life Matariki is a special time because it brings together family and friends to share and learn the stories that the stars hold also to come together to celebrate being a Maori and to show how unique our the Maori culture is and how much it means to us Maori people but anybody can celebrate it how they like dose it have be done like we have and you can do it when you like maybe when Matariki is first seen in the dawn sky, for others it could be celebrated after the full moon rises, or when you see the next new moon. .

Well this Power Point Presentation has been a awesome experience because I have learned a lot more information about Matariki and why it is so important to many more people in the world not only that when it is Matariki it reminds of all the ones I loved so much that have passed on during our life's which makes it more special to me and my family and friends.
