Why Should Organisation Care About Energy Efficiency
• Energy is a critical component of an organization's operations and can be one of the
largest controllable costs, depending on the activities.
• Improved energy performance helps organizations maximize the use of their energy
sources and energy-related assets, thus reducing both energy cost and
consumption.
• Organizations should strive to make positive contributions toward reducing depletion
of energy resources and mitigating worldwide effects of energy use, such as global
warming, while improving the efficiency of organizational operations related to
energy

• ISO 50001 is the international energy management system (EnMS) standard.
• It is the first global EnMS following from a range of national and regional standards
such as EN 16001.
• ISO 50001 EnMS is based on the management system model that is already
understood and implemented by organisations worldwide. Deming’s “Plan-Do-
Check-Act” underpins the standard, as is the case with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and
other established management system standards.
• ISO 50001 has been designed for implementation by any organisation irrespective
of size, sector or geographical location.
• ISO estimates that the standard could influence up to 60% of the world’s energy use.

What Energy Managers say about ISO 50001
Going for ISO 50001
certification provides a
point of focus and
galvanizes the people
involved to identify and
deliver significant
improvements.
By practicing energy
saving thoroughly and
conscientiously we not
only save money, but
also contribute to the
national grid in a very
positive way.
Improved operational control of
existing equipment and systems
has received a strong focus as a
result of implementing ISO 50001.
We have been impressed by the
new savings opportunities we have
identified, many at low cost.
