delivery of our programs and
services to low-income families
and communities.
Other government funds
include state and federal dollars
that support family develop-

programming, parenting educa-

Private contracts include those
for the PPL OnTrack program and
supportive services for residents
living in low/moderate-income
housing.

795 local residents were involved in our innovative ArtUp! South
Allison Hill project beautifying blighted and abandoned properties.

2. I’m often asked if what we do is successful, and I always answer, “Yes, but it’s
like running a marathon”. Running a marathon, and moving out of poverty,
takes dedication, training, time, and guts. And, just like the best marathon run-
ners, the families we work with will face setbacks, want to quit at times, have
days when they don’t feel like fighting, and will need a few extra people in their
cheering section. But you’ll see from the achievements listed in this report, that
with your help – with you in that cheering section – together, we are moving
families out of poverty and revitalizing communities.
Whether helping parents make sure their children are starting off school on the
right foot, ensuring that families can provide for their own food and housing,
counseling working families to prevent foreclosure, engaging youth in positive
community service, or empowering residents to fight blight and crime in their
own neighborhoods - we accomplish what we do because we run alongside
families, with them; coaching these dedicated runners as they devote the
time, get the training, and have the vision to win their respective marathons.
This year, we continued to put the “action” in Community Action. We complet-
ed a comprehsive needs study in our communities, transitioned leadership,
changed a number of our service locations, reconfigured our case management
program, and expanded opportunities for low-income families, all while running
that marathon with thousands of our neighbors and friends.
As we look to the coming year, we will acknowledge and celebrate our 50th
anniversary, we will implement changes that are needed to better serve you,
our community, and will continue to be good stewards of your trust.
With you in our cheering section, we will help people and change lives in Cum-
berland, Dauphin and Perry Counties!
