IMPACT OF DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGES FOR
THE STRATEGY OF ORBIS
New strategic choices:
– Decrease in workforce and increase in ageing makes it necessary for more
and better ICT (eHealth)
– Open innovation is necessary, therefore a collaboration between different
parties and companies
– More efficient logistics and capacity planning – more activities with less
people!
– Larger interest of concentration and spreading in the hospital environment
(Merger Orbis/Atrium)
–Living Labs, a real environment to create and develop new products and to
test and experiment with them.
– The province of Limburg is a precursor of the demographic changes in the
Netherlands – this gives Orbis a unique chance to learn about and to
anticipate these demographic changes.

ANOTHER WAY OF
THINKING!
• Innovation is linked to funding – funding makes experimenting
possible
• Successful projects will be developed further, being supported to be
implemented within the full organisation and get help to be spread
to the market (as launching customer – strategic partnership!)
• Financiers as insurance company are getting more interested in
helping
• Insurance companies support the financial development (e.g. OAS –
implementing in the full organisation)
• Proof of concept predicts whether it will be taken into regular
financing (insurance company, muncipality, contribution patient)

6. ORBIS ACTIVE SOCIAL COMMUNITY
NETWORK (OAS)
OAS is a system to stimulate elderly to be socially more
active.
Purpose: Socially active and a better quality of life with
less care

7. OAS is a system developed by and in
cooperation with Citard Services Ltd.
The elderly home Hoogstaete has been the
Living Lab for the development in the AAL
project Co-Living.

8. The system is at the moment also available in three
other elderly homes of Orbis
+ there is a project running to implement OAS in the
home situation of the elderly since the trend is that
they stay living at home longer.
+ OAS is used in other EU projects like CaMeLi (AAL),
CogniWin(AAL), GrowMeUp (Horizon 2020)

13. Elderly who are socially more active feel better and stay fit. The more
social active the higher the quality of life and less care and support they
need.
OAS stimulates elderly to be more active by:
· registering to several activities, group or individual activities;
· reminding them when the activity starts;
· reminding them to bring the necessary accessories to an activity;
· and expand their social contacts by inviting friends to join them;
· creating activities themselves and invite friends;
· showing the weather forecast;
· being monitored via behaviour analysis to be supported or stimulated
to be social active;
· being tracked and traced to reach their destination.
Summarized: Organized digitally to meet physically!

14. What do the elderly see?

16. + a smart reminder. Meaning an umbrella is only adviced
when this is necessary according the weather forecast
and the location of the activity.

18. A seperate module is behaviour analysis:
The system notices when an elderly behaves different.
When the elderly is inactive for a long period the system
suggests to particpate in activities which have the
interest of the elderly.
