2019:key changes
Changes in the definition of Illegal Migrant: Any
person belonging to Hindu ,Sikh , Buddhist, Jain, Parsi
or Christian community from Pakistan, Afghanistan or
Bangladesh, who entered into INDIA on or before the
31st day of December,2014 shall not be treated as
illegal migrant for the purpose of this ACT.
Changes in the process of Acquiring citizenship:The
aggregate residence period required for immigrants to
obtain citizenship of INDIA was 11 years. It is made
5years for person belonging to Hindu,Sikh,Buddhist
,Jain,Parsi or Christian community in
Afghanistan,Bangaladesh or pakistan.

10. National Register of Citizens(NRC) is a
verified digital register containing names and
basic demographic information about all
Indian Citizens in a digital format.(under
citizenship act 1955)
A person born in India or having Indian
parentage or having residence in India for at
least 11 years ,is eligible for Indian
Citizenship.

The NRC identified illegal immigrants from
Assam on the Supreme court’s order.
This has been a state-specific exercise to keep
