1. Depending on the attainment of the class, choose either of the two grids (or use the one
with English translations first) (Slides 2 and 3)
2. Read aloud appropriate examples and do choral repetition for good pronunciation.
3. Read more and ask for translations into English.
4. Then the reverse – elicit translations into French.
5. In pairs students read aloud examples to each other (or test each other as above). Check the
quality.
6. Play the Au voleur game (“sentence stealers”) – explained on slide 4. Explain in English.
7. In pairs, with slides not visible, pairs make up as many examples as possible form memory, or
new ones (slide 5).
8. Then do the translations as an oral and written task.
9. Finally, explain the role of que. Mention how the PDO agreements work.

4. Au voleur!
On each of your four cards or slips of paper write one of the sentences
you can make from the grid. Don’t reveal them.
Go around the class and guess what sentences someone else wrote.
Each time you guess correctly the other person gives you their card.
After 5 minutes who has the biggest collection of cards
5. Memory test
• Without looking at any cards or slides, in pairs make up as many
sensible sentences as you can.
• You can make up your own examples too.
• The first person who cannot make one up is the loser.
