On 09 May 2012 from 1130-1300, APG-N Recreation Center will be showing the film, Beyond Barbed Wire, an emotionally charged telling of a bizarre moment in America’s history. The stories, poignant and humorous, recount the struggle that the offspring of interned Japanese Americans faced when they fought for America in WWII, as the Army’s newly formed 442nd Regimental Combat Team –the most decorated unit, for its size and length of service, in the entire history of the U.S. Military. For those working on Edgewood, the 22nd Chemical Battalion will be showing in their classroom (BLDG E-1942) Japan: Memoirs of a Secret Empire. This excellent PBS documentary series consists of three parts of 1 hour each covering Japanese history from the arrival of the Portuguese in 1543 to the arrival of Perry and the Americans in 1854. Narrated by Richard Chamberlain, interspersed with interviews of Western and Japanese academics, this fascinating show is illustrated with re-enactments and period art work.
