Africa
1985: South African government makes first AIDS advisory group
1990: First national antenatal survey for HIV reveals 0.8% of pregnant
women have HIV positive. Also it showed that 74,000 to 120,000
people are living with HIV in South Africa
2000: Department of Health in South Africa made a five year plan to
combat HIV/AIDS and made the National AIDS Council overlook the
plan.
2002: South Africa’s high court made the drug neviraphine available to
pregnant women to stop the HIV from spreading from mother to child.
