The document provides details about a proposed psychological thriller film and trailer, including the plot, target audience, and rationale for partnering with New Line Cinema for distribution. Some key points:
- The film's plot follows a man struggling with schizophrenia after his daughter is murdered, as he tries to find the killer while questioning his own sanity.
- The target audience is ages 18-32, with a slightly higher female demographic. They enjoy music, movies, and socializing with friends and family.
- New Line Cinema is proposed as the film studio because they have successfully distributed many similar psychological thriller films in the past.
2. Institution
For my trailer coursework I decided to a psychological thriller trailer, we decided to do
this as it is a genre that not many people do as it is a movie about the mind of normal
people who have a psychological problem. As it is normal people it is relatable for the
audience which appeals to them more.
We believe New line cinema would be suitable for our film trailer, doing research into
the psychological thriller history we found that many of the top thrillers were made by
your institution. When we found this we decided to research new line cinema to see if
they would be suitable for our movie and trailer. Your institution has distributed many
other films that are of the same genre for example number 23, A nightmare on elm
street, The conjuring, final destination 5 and the butterfly effect. All of these are in the
top psychological thrillers and have all been popular in the cinema as making a big
profit from all of them. We want this for our trailer as we want the trailer to get a good
response and to be distributed by your company as they have produced other films like
ours and have also got a good response. As you are an American based studio you can
broaden our area which means our film can appeal to more appeal.
3. Plot
The conventions of a psychological thriller would be that it is based around ne main
character who has a psychological problem. As the story progresses we realise that the
character either is unsure of what he is doing or goes insane. A brief outline of our
story is that it is based around a man who has schizophrenia which is related to the
theme of psychological. He is married but unfortunately their little girl was murdered
but the murderer was never found. As the man is trying to find out who killed his
daughter he starts to go crazy trying to find out who done, he uses a shed to write
down everything that he finds but he writes on the walls so it is easier for him to look
through everything as he is going crazy. A consequence of him going crazy he starts to
argue with his wife and as he is getting agitated with trying to find out who killed his
daughter he tries to kill a man who he thinks killed her. In the last scene he is in his
shed as he is unaware of what he is doing now, he starts writing down everything he
knows but both sides of his state to try and find out who done it. At the end we find
out that he killed his daughter as he has schizophrenia and is sometimes unaware of
what he is doing. We believe this is conventional as it based around one character
with a psychological problem, another convention that we believe fits the criteria is
that there is a big plot twist as we find out that he was the one who actually his own
daughter.
4. Target audience
Our target audience is for both male and female but doing the genre research to find
out who our target audience could be the females were slightly higher but 10 %. The
age range would be 18-32 as this is the age range that would watch it as it relatable
which makes it more appealing. We chose the status would be students or workers as
this is also makes it relatable for the audience. The psychographic would be that they
like to listen to music and watch movies as this is what the majority of people in our
age range do and watch movies to show that they would want to watch this film. As
the age range is also young they also will go out with family and friends. As it is a
about a person who has schizophrenia it appeals to the target audience as they are
fascinated which appeals to them which they would want to watch films about them.
5. All of these are in the top psychological thrillers and have all been
popular in the cinema as making a big profit from all of them. We
want this for our trailer as we want the trailer to get a good
response and to be distributed by your company as they have
produced other films like ours and have also got a good response. As
you are an American based studio you can broaden our area which
means our film can appeal to more appeal.

6. Title of the magazine, it goes
with the theme of green and
black. As it is in the route of
the eye it will be the first
thing they see. As it is one of
the top film magazine they
will recognize it.
At the sides they have what
else is in the magazine as a
teaser to show the
audience the main articles
in there.
It uses typical magazine effects, such as 3 sections and route of
the eye. These are both used to appeal to the audience as both of
these rules attract the audience to the magazine.
Extreme close-up of the
main character to draw
attention to the magazine as
they will remember him
from a movie which would
have been in the film charts
at the time.
The title of the film that is the
main article of the magazine is
underneath the title of the
magazine to appeal to the
audience as once they know
the magazine they can see
straight away what is in the
magazine.
7. It uses typical magazine effects, such as 3 sections and route of
the eye. These are both used to appeal to the audience as both of
these rules attract the audience to the magazine.
The title of the magazine is
the main title of the front
cover to make sure the
audience knows what
magazine it is. Above the title
is slogan from the main film of
the magazine. After they see
the title and the slogan it
appeals to the audience as
they will want to read on to
see what is in the rest of the
magazine.
At both sides they have text boxes with more information
about what’s in the magazine. This appeals to the audience as
they want to give examples of what other articles are in the
magazine to appeal to the audience. As they are using
principle of thirds they want it to look ordered and
professional so they can also see the main image and titles.
Extreme close-up of the
main character to draw
attention to the magazine as
they will remember him
from a movie which would
have been in the film charts
at the time.
The title of the film is at the
bottom, as they are using the
route of the eye once they have
seen the title of the magazine
and the main image they will
then see the title of the film
article. As the cover is ordered it
makes it easier for the audience
to understand what's in the
magazine.
8. It uses typical magazine effects, such as 3 sections and route of
the eye. These are both used to appeal to the audience as both of
these rules attract the audience to the magazine.
As this is above the
title it appeals to the
audience as they use
of the route of the eye
they will see this from
the beginning. It is an
eye catching statement
as it is colourful and
appealing as the
audience wants an
exclusive.
The title of the main article is
on the side at the bottom. As
they use route of the eye
after they see the title and
the main image, they will see
the title of the film. As the
audience wants to see what
articles are in their if they is
one about a new release it
will appeal to them more.
The main image is of a
character from a new film
release. This is to appeal to
the audience as it is a new
film they will want to read
up about it. The image is of
a still image from the film
which attracts the
audience as it looks more
powerful. It is in front of
the title of the magazine
which shows that they
want that to attract the
audience. As it is a mid
shot it shows the costume
of the character so the
audience recognises it.
They use
subheadings at the
sides to show the
audience what else
is the magazine that
could appeal to
them. They don’t
reveal too much
information to keep
the audience
wanting to read the
articles.
9. It uses typical poster effects, such as 3 sections and route of the eye. These
are both used to appeal to the audience as both of these rules attract the
audience to the magazine.
As a well known actor
is in the film they use
this as people will
recognise him. If they
see a well known
important actor is in
the film they will want
to look it up to see if
they want to see it.
They use an extreme close
up of the actor to see the
writing on his face as it
shows he is in distress. As
well as showing his emotion
to attract the audience.
The title is on the side
at the bottom as they
will see it while using
the route of the eye as
it is in a place where
the audience are more
likely to look first to
attract them.
They use a slogan that at the end
of using a route of the eye they
will see this. As it is a slogan that
catches the audiences attention
they will see this and want to
know more about the film.
10. It uses typical poster effects, such as 3 sections and route of the eye. These
are both used to appeal to the audience as both of these rules attract the
audience to the magazine.
They use a
principle of
thirds, in the
middle section
they have the
name of the
title as this is
the section
without any
pictures so it is
on its own to
make it more
visible. As the
slogan says
“seven deadly
sins” they have
a list of them
to show what
they are to let
the audience
know.
As a well known actors
are in the film they
use this as people will
recognise them. If they
see well known
important actors are in

display it is a psychological
thriller. It could show a scar to
show she is emotionally
cracked .
They have put a rating on the
poster, this shows that it is a
good rated film. As people can
see it is rated a good amount
it will influence people to see it
as it now seems more
appealing.
13. Title of magazine

the audience as they will know it is a film magazine
and be attracted to the picture
The picture will be a mid shot of the main character
