Red night is back with their brand new album “Is this the end” which fans
having been waiting for to release for over 8 months after its announcement.
The album has sold over 10,000 copies within the first few days showing that
the album has been received quite positively by fans.
However, the response to the album has been mixed. Previous album topped
the chart for 6 months and its live raw sound drew similarities with classic punk
band like Squad 97 and sordid things. Which was made in a shorter time but
still seems to top the sales and positive feedback of “Is this the end.” The band
has been working with a new producer named Mark Harris who worked with
the successful band “Kickstart”. The producer may have had a negative effect
on the band as the music style has changed slightly to try and appeal to
American fans but has resulted in some British fans disliking the new album.
With layers of overdubbed guitar parts and big ambient drumsounds the band
are moving dangerously close to stadium rock style. This seems to annoy the
fans as they have waited 8 months for this album and it didn’t reach all of their
expectations.
Some fans blame the recent death of bass player Rick for the band new musical
direction. As you know Rick collapsed on stage on the 24 July 2016. He sadly
died in hospital that very night. The band have yet to confirm rumours that
ricks death was drug related. However gossip fromlast year’s blackout festival
hinted that Rick has not totally given up his crystal meth habit. For what was
seeming to be an enjoyable concert turned out to be devastating day for all red
night fans.
After that day the band willnever be the same as it once was. The band however
are still trying to continue their life by releasing their new album “Is this the
end.” This shows that there is still hope in the band as they are not giving up
despite being a man down. We were lucky enough to manage to get an
interview with Jimmy Johnson (the lead singer) to talk to himaboutthe album.
The new bassist Kurt linkman who was suggested by Mark Harris as he worked
with Kurt when he was stillin the band Kickstart. We askedJimmy how the new
band member was settling in he said.
“We tried our hardest to make this album the best we could but we find it
difficult being down a man. But we will keep trying and we will try and recreate
what made us great as we all think that is what Rick would have wanted us to
do. No one can replace Rick we loved him but Kurt has a more funky base style
we think our fans will love.”

A competition has been announced and the fans have to guess which songs are
about each band member as all the songs are about personal experiences that
one of the band members have experienced. The 5 winner get the chance to
meet the band backstage during the tour next summer.

These songs will also be included when they go back on
tour. You heard that right. They will be going on tour
next summer all over the UK. Thoughthe dates are not
confirmed on it is rumored that it will start in
Darlington and will end in Edinburgh. European fans
will be pleased to hear that gigs are also penciled in for
such as Berlin, Paris…etc. This will be their 2nd
tour they
have done in their career as their last one was in
2015 just after their last album was released.
Also in other news James Pegs the guitarplayerfor the
band has had his iconic guitarstolen from his
apartment last Friday night. The buglerapparently got
through smashing the window next to the doorgrabbed
the guitar and left. James Pegs says that he regrets that
he did not upgrade his security which could have saved
his precious guitar. The thief has not been found yet
but police are still on lookout for the thief. The guitar
was the same guitar that he started with when he joined
Red Night which James has grown an affection too.
Without the guitarJames says that it will take some
time to get used too. His new guitarhe’s been using
since that night does not give off the same style of
sound that the fans fell in love with. His new guitar
gives off a fat sound and a different tone to what James
wants to give. Jimmy states that:
“James over the past few days is getting a little
stressed as he anxious about letting fans down by his
playing not being not as good as he wants. However I
have good feeling that he will soon get the hang of it
and will be preforming to the level of standard he is
known to do in no time.”
Taking now in to account that the album has made over
10,000 copies with the fact that the band are still
recovering afterthe loss of their friend and the new band
member, producer and guitar. There doing surprisingly
well as most band may take a break before going back to
playing but Red Night refuse to give up and will keep
going to please their fans no matter the situation there
in. The fans are all excited of the release the new album
despite it not being what they expected as loyal fans
know what the band have been through and they will
keep supporting the band through all their tough points
in life.
