Writing?
MAGAZINES
Barkas, J. L. (2004) share some tips:
• Get a literary agent/ expert person in
writing skills to critics your ideas
(p.104)
• Start making first draft of writing – not
to publish yet.
• Do some research: Who your
audience? Where to promote your
product? What style you want to
use? (p.105)
• Take rejection well (p.105).
• Write a query letter (p.107).
Let us imagine…
• What happen when we receive a
letter stating that:
“Thank you for letting us see your
article entitled “Why do People
Complain?”. We read it with
interest; but unfortunately, the piece
does not fit in with our editorial
plans at this time. I am returning the
manuscript to you with our best
wishes for publication elsewhere.
Thank you.”
What is query letter?
• A letter with a short statement that
mentioning our writing plan & brief
information about our writing
expertise.
• To get editor attention to accept our
writing and publish it.
• Must consider these:
a) Your idea must be the latest, newest
and fresh.
b) This particular magazines is the right
place to publish your ideas.
Example:
Dear sir,
My name is Latifah Rabbaaniah, a
journalist from Berita Harian. I will
be going to eastern Ukraine by this
week to interview local people at
Hrabove, who had admitted to see
our flight, MH17 had hit the ground

Would your magazine be interested
in an article based on my trip and
interview with the local people
from there?
Sincerely yours,
- latifah -
