"This instrument can
teach, it can illuminate;
yes, and even it can
inspire. But it can do so
only to the extent that
humans are determined
to use it to those ends.
Otherwise, it is nothing
but wires and lights in a
box."
Edward R. Murrow , 1958 Speech

The devices which science
has given us are niether
good nor evil in
themselves. Their capacity
for good or evil lies in the
use we make of them.
Thus, not in the laboratory,
but in the human heart, in
the realm of spirit, lies the
challenge of the future.
David Sarnoff , RCA, NBC, 1919-1970

Here you go, fans of Pawn Stars, Storage Wars and Dance Moms: A+E
Networks programming — including some unscripted series that Netflix
dropped last fall — will be available to people who pay $79 a year for
Amazon’s Prime service. It announced today a licensing deal to offer
previous seasons of shows from channels including A&E, bio, History and
Lifetime. “We remain focused on adding TV episodes and movies to
Prime Instant Video that we think our customers will enjoy,” says
Amazon’s Director of Digital Video Content Acquisition Brad Beale.
Devices capable of playing the videos include the Kindle Fire HD (of
course); Apple’s iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch; Roku; Xbox 360;
PlayStation 3; and the Wii U. The retailer says that Prime customers now
can watch more than 33,000 movies and TV shows at no additional cost.
No word on financial terms for the deal with A+E.

• A Transmedia Narrative project or franchise
must consist of three (or more) narrative
storylines existing within the same fictional
universe
• NOT the same as repurposing material from
one platform to be cut or repurposed to
different platforms
• Transmedia producers also create and implement
interactive endeavors to unite the audience of the
property with the canonical narrative and this
element should be considered as valid qualification
for credit as long as they are related directly to the
narrative presentation of a project
31. “Already more than half of Americans are
watching TV and surfing the Web
simultaneously. But another trend--giving
connectivity to the device itself--is going to
fundamentally change the business models
around television and the way we consume
and interact with content.”

According to Nielsen, over 70% of
tablet owners and 68% of
Smartphone owners say they use
their devices while watching TV –
much of the time to look up content
about a show, piece of news, that
they are watching.

1 million TV episodes and 2
million monthly visitors.
"We were looking at the next 50
years of television, and how it was
merging with the Internet," says
Lanzone, Clicker's CEO and co-
founder. "How would you navigate
all of that? A daily calendar
wouldn't cut it anymore, which is
what programming guides were in
the previous 50 years. ... It would
need to be a lot more like a search
engine."
