Rights + Voice = Freedom
Have you ever reflected to your early years? Remember how your parents always cry out “Be
careful!”? Well, not everybody experienced this kind of loving and caring as we experienced
from our parents.Due to not knowing that until today, there are still children suffering from child
labour, child soldier, and bonded labour. But most importantly we are not mindful about it.
Knowing that the children in developing countries does not have the right to play, right to an
education and being voiceless, I will try to convince you that there are many ideas that we can
use to help spread the word and make this world a better place. We all need to listen to the
children’s voices so that they would have the basic rights just like an ordinary innocent child.
Most of the children that were affected by child labour had deprived their right to play. They do
not have the right to play because of bonded labour, where children happen to work forcedly.
Most of the children do not know how to play because they have not played for years (D’Adamo
88).Children were kept as child slave, which means that they work instead of playing with their
friends. They only have little time to eat because they should get back to work shortly. They
work hard and very fast to erase each line on their slate (D’Adamo 3). They didn’t know that the
debt will never be canceled until the day Iqbal arrived (D’Adamo 20). The children had been
working long time ago and they had never seen lines on the slate that had been erased.Mean
while here in developed countries, kids always play whether at school or at home because it is a
way to relieve stress. For children, playing is a way to interact with other children and to expand
their knowledge and imagination. It is also helpful for them to explore new things at a young
age. However, poverty was one of the reasons that prevent them from purchasing supplies. Now
ask your self how your childhood had been and compare it with the children in developing
countries.
Just as the right to play is as important to children, also one of the most important in life is to
have an education because it is the KEY to a better future. Children in developing countries or
children that are in poverty could not afford to go to school. Poverty is when people or a family
could not afford the basic necessities that a people should have to be able to survive every day.
Children do not have the basic supplies such as pencils, paper, books, etc. and do not have the
money to buy uniforms especially when it is strongly recommended. Most of the children suffer

walking because of the long distance just to go to school, due to not having any transportation.
We are very lucky to be able to have transportation to go to school, not like them, they do not
even have shoes. The worst thing is we take it for granted; we do not appreciate what we have
and sometimes complain about it. Most of the towns and places in developing countries just have
plain land and still do not have school build. We all know that education holds a very big chapter
of our lives because without it your future is still unknown.
Right to play and right to an education are just some of the many basic rights. But many of the
people are scared to fight for it. They are voiceless. Being silence hurts. Most of the children
could not stand up for themselves because they are scared that something much worst will
happen. They could not stand up for their own rights because no one will hear them out loud. No
one will hear them out loud because people still does not know that there are children suffering
from not having the right to play and to an education. Being voiceless is being less expressive
about your thoughts and feelings. Have you been mindful about this issue? Well, think about it.
How can we all people of the society help raise awareness and how we can help them by
donating to organizations that supports about the issue?
Now that my essay is almost finished, ask yourself. Can I really make a difference? What can I
do to make a difference? What are the processes of making my goal? Does this affect not only
my personal life but also everyone else’s? These are the questions you should have in mind
before taking the action. I do agree to the fact that no one should be threatened, discriminated
and suffering from abuse. And this is the part where we come in. We can help raise awareness to
our society about giving the children their own basic right, we can also donate to some of the
organizations around the country to help support the children that have been deprived their
rights, and we can volunteer to teach children at different organizations around the city to help
children understand more what is happening around the world. I personally think that children at
a very young age should know what is happening around the world. Children should be aware
around their surroundings. Each and every one of us should not be treated the way the children
had been treated. After all we are humans. Keep in mind,LETS DO THIS RIGHT BECAUSE
TOGETHER WE WILL FIGHT!
