De Salon Foundation hosts a series of lectures , interviews and discussions about societal developments. De Salon is held monthly at Felix Meritis in Amsterdam. My lecture revolved around the (expected) societal commitment of art vis á vis a society in rapid transformation. What should artistic urgency be pointed at? At individual artistic development, or at (partially) serving the cultural/political/social discourse at large? As a leitmotif (with the hybrid history of Felix Meritis' as centre of the arts and sciences in mind) I chose to depart from the notion of the artwork as 'probe': as both vehicle and trigger for investigation and transformation.
