The molar mass of an element can be found on the Periodic table. It is the decimal located below each element’s symbol.

Units: atomic mass unit (amu) or grams per mole (g/mol),[object Object]

Named for Amedeo Avogadro, an Italian chemist and physicist (1776-1856)

Finding Molar Mass ,[object Object]

Multiply molar mass of each element by the number of moles of that element in the molecule: 1(15.9994) = 15.9994 and 2(1.00794) = 2.01588

Add the two numbers: 15.9994 + 2.01588 = 18.02 g/mol

Finding Molar Mass Cont. ,[object Object]

Multiply molar mass of each element by the number of moles of that element in the molecule: 1(22.990) = 22.9901(15.9994) = 15.9994 and 1(1.00794) = 1.00794 ,[object Object], 22.990 + 15.9994 + 1.00794 = 39.99734 g/mol
