the most famous and the most significant
personalities of our country.
You can also see paintings of our
classmates in this presentation.
In this paintings we´d like to show you
our view of the history of Slovakia and
also our relationship to it and to our
country.
3. PRIBINA ( 800 - 861)
ď Pribina was a Slavic prince .
ď As the prince he ruled the country especially
from his seat in Nitra â Nitrava.
ďHe also built the first Christian church on our
territory - on the territory to the North of the
river Danube.
4. Cyril and Metod â 9th century
⢠Cyril and Method were also called Thessalonian
brothers or apostoles of the Slavs during formation of
Great Moravia.To our territory they came from
Byzantium, which was the centre of culture before.
⢠They became Christian missionaries between Slavic
nations of Great Moravia. They spread Christianity and
culture and contributed significantly to development of
Great Moravia.
⢠Their work influenced cultural development of all the
Slavs. They received the title âapostoles of the Slavsâ.
They created the first Slavic writing - Hlaholika.
5. MĂRIA TERĂZIA 1740 â 1780
⢠Måria TerÊzia was Hungarian and Czech Queen of
the Habsburgs.
⢠She ruled the territory of Slovakia in 18th century
when Slovakia was the part of Austria â Hungary.
⢠During her reign
the monarchy developed.
6. Svätopluk
⢠Svätopluk is the most known and the
most significant Slovak monarch.
⢠In 9th century he was the Prince of
Nitraâs principality and from 871 to 894
also the most known monarch of Great
Moravia.
7. Matúť ÄĂĄk TrenÄiansky ( 1252 â 1321 )
⢠Named as the Master of Våh and the
Tatras, significant nobleman.
⢠He lived in TrenÄĂn castle, he owned
another 30 castles.
8. Matej KorvĂn
⢠He was significant monarch in
15th century.
⢠Matej KorvĂn came from the
HuĹady´s family and his father JĂĄn
HuĹady was the richest magnate
in Hungary.
⢠Through his reign he contributed
to economic and cultural rise of
our country.
10. Master Pavol from LevoÄa
15 â16th century.
⢠In creative region of LevoÄa for almost
four decades, Master Pavol from LevoÄa
lived and formed his art. He is considered
for the biggest medieval artist of Slovakia
till this time.
⢠He was a medieval carver and sculptor of
15th and 16th century, active mostly in the
town of LevoÄa, Slovakia.
⢠He was famous as the creator of the altar
in St. Jacobâs Church in the town of
LevoÄa, where he lived with his family most
of his life.
11. JuraJ JĂĄnoĹĄĂk (1688 -1713)
⢠Slovak Robin Hood â own name Juraj
JĂĄnoĹĄĂk is the biggest Slovak legend.
⢠He was a famous Slovak outlaw. JĂĄnoĹĄĂk
has been the main character of many
Slovak legends, novels, poems and films.
⢠He was born in Terchovå in Orava.
⢠According to the legend, he robbed nobles
and gave the loot to the poor.
⢠He was executed in Liptovský Mikulåť.
⢠He was executed and it is also possible
that JĂĄnoĹĄĂk was hanged. A hook was
pierced through his left side and he was
left dangling on the gallows to die.
12. Ä˝udovĂr ĹĄtĂşr ( 1815 - 1856)
⢠He was the most significant
personality of Slovakia during
Austria-Hungarian monarchy.
⢠ĽudovĂt Ĺ tĂşr was the most significant
representative of Slovak national life
and the leading figure of Slovak
national revival in 19th century.
⢠He created
Slovak literary language.
13. Pavol DobĹĄinskĂ˝ ( 1828 â 1885 )
⢠He came from Gemer situated in the south -
east of Slovakia.
⢠He was a Slovak collector of folklore and writer
belonging to the period of Romanticism and to the
Ĺ tĂşr generation.
⢠He is perhaps best known for creating the
largest and for the most complete collection
of Slovak folktales. (Simple National Slovak
Tales), self-published in a series of eight
books from 1880 to 1883.
⢠For his collections he has often been referred to as
"Slovakian Hans Christian Andersenâ.
⢠The focus of most of his work was on
folklore.
14. Habakuky in Donovaly in Slovakia
ď Habakuky is DobĹĄinský´s world of fairy tales .
ď It is a small village created by the stories of
DobĹĄinskĂ˝ .
ď You can see here 15 objects such as castles, lakes,
small cottages, monsters.
ď We would like to visit this village with you through
your stay in Slovakia.
16. Pavol OrszĂĄgh-Hviezdoslav (1849 â 1921)
⢠Pavol Orszågh-Hviezdoslav
was the most significant
Slovak poet, dramatist and
translator.
⢠He is considered to be one
of the most significant
personalities of Slovak
literature and Slovak
culture.
