Award Programme
In 2008 the British Heart Foundation (BHF)
introduced a new ‘Hearty Lives’ award
programme under its Prevention & Care
(P&C) work stream to continue its vital,
pioneering and caring work.
3. The Cluster Project Award
NHS Hartlepool and Hartlepool Borough Council –
joint bid for a BHF cluster project award to address
health inequalities due to Cardio Vascular Disease
(CVD) at the Local Authority level.
Cluster project award = £100,000 over a period of
3 years.

Although the health of the population of
Hartlepool is improving the experience of ill
health, disability and premature death from
cardiovascular disease has impacted on
many families for generations evidenced in
local CVD mortality data.

Our project aims to support children (aged
7-14years) to make healthier choices and
break the cycle of ill health and premature
death from CVD experienced by their
parents and grandparents by getting
children and young people engaged,
proactive, healthy and skilled to make
healthier choices.

10. Real Food Works
We are a socially directed business, supporting people
in adopting a healthier lifestyle, through ‘down to
earth’, hand’s-on cooking workshops and
demonstrations.
We do this through sessions which are:

delivered in the community
cost-effective
fully mobile
tailor made for each group/organisation

Since 2006 we have, working in partnership
with more than 90 organisations, delivered
over 1,100 workshops & demonstrations
engaging with more than 43,000 people –
from 3 to 93 years young!

INVITATION TO TENDER
Hartlepool Borough Council are seeking to appoint a
suitable provider/s with appropriate culinary and health
education experience to plan, develop, deliver and
evaluate a fun interactive Children’s Healthy Cooking
Roadshow which supports the aims and ethos of the
Hartlepool Hearty Lives Programme ‘Younger and
Wiser’.

14. Over the next 12 months we will be
working in all 30 primary schools across
the borough delivering sessions with yr 5
pupils, including:
Heart Health information/activities
Hands on cooking for every pupil
The Cool Green Smoothie Machine
Creating an on-line community to share learning
15. We plan to extend the work by
engaging with families, using the
children to demonstrate the skills &
knowledge they have gained, with
the aim of embedding the learning
within the family setting.
