Memory gameMemory game
Material:
We use different cards with pictures of fruit on them, for example: banana, apple…
(Always two cards with the same picture)
Procedure:
In order to learn the names of the fruit you have to prepare flashcards with pictures.
You show the pupils the flashcard and let them repeat the name of the fruit shown on
this card. You do this with all the fruit and then you start the game.
Every child gets five matchsticks. With closed eyes he or she has to pull a memory
card, which tells him/her what fruit it is. There are always two cards with the same
picture. The pupils have to run around and ask, for example: ”Are you a banana?” If
the answer is “No I am not” the pupil who was asking, has to give a matchstick to
his/her partner and has to carry on asking another one. If a child gets a positive
answer (“Yes I am), this pair is allowed to sit down. In the end all pairs have to count
their matchsticks. The winner is this pair, who has the most matchsticks left.
Children’s Language points:
Banana, apple, pears, plums, strawberry, orange, pin apple, kiwi
Teacher’s language points:
Every one of you gets five matchsticks from me. Then you have to close your eyes
and pull a memory card. This card tells you which fruit you are. There are always two
cards with the same pictures, so you have to find your partner (who has the same
card as you). Then you have to run around and ask a child, for example: “Peter, are
you a banana?” If Peter answers: “No, I am not” you have to give Peter one of your
matchsticks to Peter and you have to carry on asking another one. If Peter answers:
“Yes, I am”, Peter and you can sit down. In the end all pairs have to count their
matchsticks. The winner is this pair, who has the most matchsticks left.
Aims:
The pupils should be able to
 identify and name the fruit
 ask questions with the right phrase
 pronounce, communicate and count in English
