This document provides guidance on maximizing fundraising efforts through social media. It recommends creating accounts on key platforms like Google, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and blogs to build an online presence and engage supporters. Automation tools are suggested to cross-post blog updates to these accounts to regularly share stories and progress. Using hashtags can help promote events. Mobile apps allow sharing updates on the go. Consistency across profiles is advised to portray a professional image.
2. Maximise your efforts
This handbook was created with the aim of maximising the amount of fundraising you can achieve by leveraging social media. For
those people who already use certain types of social media or all types of social media you are already ahead of the game and
will easily reach your targets.
For those who require an extra little help or are totally novices, I hope this will be helpful and you will reap what you sow. Quite
simply you will see the rewards for your efforts in the donations that will come through your justgiving site.
For an example of a campaign I recently help to set up and automate have a look at this site
http://www.runningman.co
Nigel Cook is a good client and friend of mine and came into my office the Thursday before the first half marathon, you can see
the results by the Monday morning on his justgiving site, by looking at my initial donation, after we had set it up, to the total as of
after his first run.
Have a look at the content and how we integrated the social media across the Blog, automated it via the application in the
handbook and ultimately drove lots of small donations to what is a superb running total (pardon the pun)
Now Nigel had an advantage, he already had a reasonable following of friends and associated on facebook, but that was all! He
was on twitter, but didn’t use it, never hear of Flickr, foursquare and had no idea about Blogging.
I set the accounts up, automated them and then enabled the Email & Mobile posting on the Blog to enable him to email Blog
posts via his BlackBerry direct to the Blog, also with the use of social media apps, all of which are free, he was also able to update
from the road his efforts in training along with the races and even the pub rewards.
So get yourself onto social media and build up your following ready to get them to help you reach your target..!

9. Foursquare
Foursquare is a location-based mobile platform that makes
cities easier to use and more interesting to explore. By
“checking in” via a smartphone app or SMS, users share their
location with friends while collecting points and virtual
badges. Foursquare guides real-world experiences by
allowing users to bookmark information about venues that
they want to visit and surfacing relevant suggestions about
nearby venues. Merchants and brands leverage the
foursquare platform by utilizing a wide set of tools to obtain,
engage, and retain customers and audiences.
In terms of use for Charity Fund Raising we have seen it used
as validating training, also the race itself. But if you use it in
conjunction with Dlvr.it the messages from your Blog posts
are sent to friends on here, encouraging them to look at the
Blog post and then hopefully donate.
10. Photo Sharing
This could be a great way of sharing you’re training , Spartan
photo shoots with friends
It would also serve to give more info and content to your
Blog and in doing so would attract more visitors and
hopefully more fundraising.
The account is free and easy to set up and you can link it with
an API and widget back to your Blog
If you have a BlackBerry or iPhone there is even an app that
will allow you to upload on the road. Meaning your real time
progress in the race or during training could be used to push
your message out over and over again!
Photo Sharing – Key Metrics
• Referrals from photo sharing sites
• Views of photos on social sites
• Subscribers to your photo profile or pages
• Pages rankings on key terms from photo sharing sites
• Subscribers to your video series or channel

12. Use a SmartPhone
How to get the message out consistently
So how do you make sure you and your team are not missing the chance to be involved in the
conversation, or pick up on that “Golden Thread”.
Quite simply, get a SmartPhone and load it with the social media your going to use.
One of the compelling reasons, is that BlackBerry run all the interface from the Message box.
Meaning you get twitter, facebook, LinkedIn and all the other social media alerts and
notifications direct to one point. So your not having to go out searching to see if people are
talking, commenting or engaging with you. This all comes to you, direct on one device and allows
you to respond when your down time allows.
Start adding in the other fundamentals in terms of more productivity and an increase in
performance and you’re on course to a winning combination.
If you want some “Social Validation” try searching for BlackBerry on any and all forms of social
media and see what people are saying.
BlackBerry Messenger
Then look into the BlackBerry built in messenger application, this simple tool allows you to create
a quick conference group, with no charge to any party other than access, regardless of what
network or country they are in.
Get your teams collaborating in a very simple way, where everyone see the conversation strings.
