The main focus is not your powerpoint. It is what you are saying and how you are presenting it. Leave out slides that are busy and full of information. Your slides should have a lot of negative space. The less clutter, the more your slide will pop-out.
The best slides might be the ones with no text at all. Make a detailed handout to pass out to the crowd. This will make the presentation easier to follow. The more text that are on the slide the more boring it becomes and you will lose the audience's interest. Never turn your back to read the text on the slide.
Stick to subtle/ professional animations. The audience will get bored if they have to endure slide after slide of constant animations. Use only a couple transitions and do no use a transition between every slide.
Never use a small image and stretch it. Avoid powerpoint clipart. Use pictures of people on your slides. The audience will connect better with the image.
Need a consistent visual theme. Make your own background templates. No one likes a cookie-cutter presentation.
Do not include too much data on your slides. Pie charts, vertical bar charts, horizontal bar graphs, and line charts are among some charts you can use.
Pie charts- shows %’s. limit to 4 to 6 slices.
Vertical Bar Charts- shows change in quantity over time- limit to 4-8 bars
Horizontal bar Charts- Compare quantities.
Line charts- Demonstrate trends
Best to use charts for side by side comparison.
Color evokes feelings and emotions. The right color can persuade and motivate. Color selections can increase interest and improve learning comprehension and retention.
Fonts send subtle messages. Use the same fonts throughout your presentation. Use fonts that are easy to see from afar.
Use video or audio when appropriate. Using a video clip will not only enhance your message but will also change the pace of your presentation. This will increase the interest of your audience.
People compare better when info is presented in small chunks. People tend to stay focused for small amounts of time. This will increase visual clarity and improve communication.
