This is a short presentation about school firms in Croatian secondary school system that deals with business and economics. This was created as a part of seminars for teachers to share their work and experiences during the the Comenius Multilateral project "Enterprising, healthy and creative" 2012-2014.
2. • There are currently 81 training firms registered at the Commercial
Court of the Central Administrative Office of Training Firms of the
Croatian Agency for Vocational Education and Training
• The Croatian Agency for Vocational Education and Training has
been established pursuant to the Croatian Law on the Agency for
Vocational Education and Training
• The scope of work of the Agency comprises areas reaching form
planning, development, organization to implementation,
monitoring and advancement of the vocational education and
training system
3. VETIS - The Information System of the Vocational Education
• A user name and a password are needed to register in the System
• This System performs all the activities related to the scope of business
of the Commercial Court, of the banking system, old-age pension
insurance and health insurance, of the Revenue Office and so on
4. • The implementation of the idea of
introducing training firms into vocational
schools started in Croatia about 10 years ago.
•The principle on which they carry out their
activities is to “perform activities at the verge
of the real business world”.
•Training firms conduct their business with
fictive goods and perform fictive financial
transactions.
5. Objectives of the school subject “Training
Firm”:
• to simulate the foundation of a company (firm)
• to perform managing and business activities of an
organisation
• to grasp the principles of how the market economy
functions through performing business tasks and
activities
• to encourage entrepreneurial spirit and stimulate
interests to carry out business activities independently
6. Curriculum of the school subject
“Training Firm” comprises:
• company foundation
• employment
• strategies and means of advertising
• keeping business records and business books
• web-page designing
• business correspondence and communication
• business performance activities
• business plan
• radio spot
• preparation for a participation on a trade fair
• issuing of annual balance sheet
• liquidation of a business firm
7. Activities of trainees-employees of a Training Firm:
• registration of the firm
• registration of employees
• preparation of advertising materials
• book-keeping
• ordering of goods and services
• payment transactions within country and abroad
• tax calculations related to bill payments…
8. •Almost anything could be ordered at a
Training Firm
• honey, vegetables, furniture, computers, cars,
artefacts, evening gowns, telephones, ceramic tiles…
9. Within two weekly classes for the period of two
school years, students of Training Firms perform
duties of:
• company directors
• human resources managers
• accountants
• purchasing administrators
• sales administrators
• advertising agents
• business administrators
• IT system administrators
10. • “Training Firm” has so far been an optional
school subject.
• From the next school year it is going to be
introduced as an obligatory school subject in
vocational schools of business.
