2. Analyze Learners
 The unit is for an 8th grade Health class and is geared
toward the average learner. The students range in age
from 13 to 15 years. 7 students in the class have mild
ADHD. The class consists of 10 boys, 7 girls, 70% white,
20% African-American and 10% Latino. Generally, the
students are well-behaved when the lesson integrates
project-based learning activities that focus on topics of
interest.
3. State Objectives
 Each student will display the five food groups and
associate foods with each food group with 90%
accuracy by writing the correct foods in the correct food
group on the smartboard.
5. Utilize Media and Materials
 The unit poster will be used to guide the class in a
classroom discussion that will activate prior knowledge
 YouTube will be used to show the “Be Healthy” video.
 The smartboard will be used to display the video and to
categorize food into food groups.
6. Require Learner Participation
 All students must participate in the discussion of the
poster and the grouping of foods. The “Be Healthy”
video will be shown to motivate students and get them
excited about the unit. Students will then be required to
participate in group work of grouping and choosing
foods.
7. Evaluate and Revise
 Grouping, especially, will be evaluated. If certain
students do not behave well with one another, changes
in groups will be made, but I will evaluate all techniques
used and the effect they have on students. Revisions will
be made if necessary.
