2. Overall
• China Automotive Engineering Research
Institute(former Chongqing Auto. Research
Institute) and ChanA hosted the forum
• Known institutes/makers presented at the forum:
Department of Energy (U.S.), Argonne
Lab.,Lotus Engineering, FEV,AVL,Nissan,etc.
However, BYD did not show at the forum as
usual
• Some highlights as per following pages
3. ChanA(Chan An Auto.)
EV/HEV plans
• ChanA will develop pure battery EV in 2012 only,
they see sales possibility of electric-fuel hybrid
cars in 2010 and 2011
• two models showed: micro hybrid Z-shine(Stop-
start system, SOS March 2010) and mild hybrid
Joyce(144V,6A, Ni-H battery, on sales)
• ChanA New Energy Auto.Co.Ltd planned till
2014: CBU 30,000 units, 100,000 units of
battery/motor/control module respectively
• They will apply Stop-start system as default
specs for future models
4. DOE
“R&D in PHEV and battery”
• Energy storage (battery pack) is still bottleneck for PHEV
(plug-in hybrid EV) due to cost and performance
• Financed Li-ion battery projects of A123 and Johnson
Control
• Typical info. – battery pack for PHEV:
– Current 3.4 kWh, US$800+/kWh, 3+ year life, for 10 mile PHEV
– Goals 2012 3.4 kWh, US$500+/kWh,10+ year life, for 10 mile
PHEV
– Goals 2014 11.6 kWh, US$300+/kWh, 10+ year life, for 40 mile
PHEV
5. Nissan
“challenge for EV”
• EV market plan
– New EV – “Leaf” in 2010 in US and Japan
– 2011 in China
– 2012 globally
• Approach for CO2 reduction
– Clean energy generation, such as wind and solar
– Battery JV with NEC
– Charging network construction (with local govt.)
– Charging system evolution (faster and smart)
6. Argonne Lab .
“Battery Performance Evaluation”
• Build up research facility for HEV/PHEV power
train test benchmarking: emission, fuel economy,
cold/hot temps, charge life
• Tested 2007-2009: Prius (6 conversions),
Escape (3 conversions) and other 6 HEV/PHEV
models
• Standards Committee work - J1711
7. FEV / AVL / Lotus Engineering
“HEV with Range-extender module”
• A “practical solution” for EV development
• Concept and realization
– compact specific engine for electricity generation
– Simplified design and low producing cost
– Euro 6 emission
– NVH comfort
8. IDIADA
Homologation for EV
• Current: ECE-R100 electrical safety (very basic
requirement, cover pure EV only)
• Future:
– ECE-R100: scope covers HEV, more strict safety
features, such as service disconnect, fuse or circuit
braker, overcharging prevention)
– ECE-R94&95 frontal and lateral crash impact for M1
& N1:
• Requirement on electrolyte leakage
• Protection against electrical shock after crash
• Protection of passenger compartment against battery
intrusion
• Isolation resistance to chassis and residual HV bus energy
after crash
9. DELPHI
“key components of EV”
• Displayed available products:
– Controller, DC/AC inverter, DC/DC converter,
Charger, Battery pack, etc
• Integration capability for EV
10. What happens in China
• Commercialization of electric bus and
coach sooner than cars
• No success without govt.and cities support
on charging network
• Again, probably China automotive industry
is behind the developed countries on EV
standard, system and components, for
less structural approach on EV product
development
