Wind energy is generated from the kinetic energy of wind. Modern wind turbines convert the kinetic energy of wind into electrical energy. There are two main types of wind turbines: horizontal-axis turbines that have three blades and stand around 20 stories tall; and vertical-axis turbines that resemble an eggbeater and are less common. Wind turbines are often located in windy areas like hilltops, open plains, and shorelines, where they are grouped together into wind farms to generate electricity from the wind.
