must keep up with the times and new tools
available to enhance our lives and careers. The
21st Century has brought us to new levels of
professionalism and we must rise to the challenge
if we want to have successful lives.

towards a successful

 Specific Career Skills
 Technology has
changed and
developed in massive
waves since the start
of the 21st Century.
 It is crucial to
maintain and grow
our knowledge base
in modern technology
and it’s uses.
 Knowledge in the use
of Web 2.0 Tools is
important to
effectively share and
view up-to-date
information.
 Know how to use
these tools for
presentation
purposes.
 Having the basic
understanding and
knowledge of 21st
century skills is
good, but each
specific career has it’s
own set of even more
specific skills needed
to be successful.
 Social workers must
have key
characteristics to be
excellent helpers.
 Empathy
 A social worker needs to relate
or recognize feelings of other
people.
 Empathy can lead to a effective
helping relationships with the
clients.
 Ethics
 A relationship between social
worker and client needs to be
based on trust.
 A social worker’s code of
ethics outlines
integrity, privacy, confidentiali
ty, and appropriate
relationships with clients.
 Following these ethics is the
most important part of being a
social worker.
 Organization
 Social workers have to
maintain great time-
management in order to fulfill
all that is required of them.
 Flexibility
 Each client a social worker
engages with are different.
 Social workers need to be
flexible in order to work with
the vast majority of people and
cultures.
 Following a schedule is great
but sometimes there are
conflicts and the schedule
needs to be adjusted at the last
minute.
 Social work core values remain constant but
our interpretations change and we must mold
to them in order to be the most effective in this
field.
