3. In 1993 the international Family celebrated its centenary with
celebrations around the world. This culminated with the sixth
Brigade International Conference in Dublin, Ireland. The next
Brigade International Conference in 1998, held in
Brisbane, Australia saw a reorganization of the international
structure. As a result of this meeting the Atlantic and Pacific
committees ceased to exist, and instead five fellowships were
formed - Africa, Asia, Caribbean and Americas, Europe and
Pacific. Each Fellowship was, and still is, responsible for the
development and administration of GB in its own geographical
area. Representatives from each fellowship, together with the
International President and Treasurer form The International
Presidents Committee, who have the responsibility of the work of
The Girls’ Brigade International between International Council
meetings. These meetings are now held once every four years.

further the work of the Girls' Brigade

7.  A Girls’ Brigade company is divided into four
age groups and is for girls from Prep to age 21.
These groups foster all important relationships
between peers and leaders and enable aged
appropriate activities and discussions. These
groups, coupled with the weekly
activities, camps and outings, assist in
developing social and life skills, a personal
faith and help girls create long lasting
friendships.

8. Girls Brigade is divided into the following sections:
 4 to 7 years - Explorer (Primary 1-Primary 3)
 8 to 11 years - Junior (Primary 4-Primary 7)
 12 to 18 years – Brigader (1st Year-6th Year)
Developing A Vision for GBS – Funding has been secured for this
strategic initiative that will be led by the new Executive as from
September 2011. This is designed to build on the work
undertaken in recent years and will involve Executive,
Commissioners, Group Leaders, Chaplains, Captains and young
leaders in a series of one day events

10.  Australia has the opportunity to send four
leaders plus the National Commissioner. At
least one of the leaders must be in the 18 – 30
years age bracket.
 The Conference includes training, business,
future planning and lots of opportunities to
meet leaders from our Pacific Fellowship
countries.

11.  Our vision is to see girls come into a
relationship with a living God and to be able
to actively and enthusiastically express their
love for God and others through their
communities. Girls learn to live out our motto
which is "Seek, Serve and Follow Christ"

12.  Fellowship Conferences are held every two years
with the next one due to be held in 2012, in
Tanzania.
 In April, 2009, the first Fellowship Girls camp was
held in Livingstone, Zambia. It is hoped that these
will also be held every two years and the girls
chose South Africa as their venue for the 2nd
Fellowship camp.
 Annual camps, fun-days, hiking, canoeing and
workshops are happening all the time in every
country. Get in touch with a GB contact in your
country or nearest country if there is no GB in your
own country.

14. FIZZ International (part of GB Europe)
 The Fizz initiative mobilises a new generation of women to serve
communities around the world; joining, pioneering and enabling projects
that restore hope for life.
 Empower women to join in God’s mission, in His world
 Provide women with opportunities to become and grow as disciples
 Enable transformation within individuals and communities.
In July and August 2011, the GB FIZZ network will, in partnership with
SMILE INTERNATIONAL, enable teams to participate in outreach
amongst communities of children and relief work in Kosova. Kosova was
part of a horrific ethnic conflict in 1998 which caused the deaths of 11,000
people and left many families emotionally and financially devastated.
FIZZ teams will restore hope for life by:
 Organising exciting Holiday Bible Clubs for children in local villages
 Distributing aid to widows
 Participating in mission events in local churches
 Assisting with the running of the three GB companies in Kosova

15.  The 10th Conference of The Girls’ Brigade International Council is
at Kuching, Malaysia
 GB Malaysia is hosting this Conference for key leaders from 26
countries with 250 delegates of different nationalities and
cultures. GB first came to Asia in 1927 with the founding of the
1st Singapore Company and her wings spread to the shore of
Penang, Malaysia with the formation of the 1st Penang Company
in 1938.
 It spread to East Malaysia (Sarawak and Sabah) with its first
company, that is 1st Kuching in Sarawak in 1967. GB has been in
existence in Malaysia for 72 years. Currently, we have a
membership of 5475 girls and officers in 65 companies.
 The purpose of this Conference is to review the work done in
different countries, to map the future direction for the growth of
the organization in the world. It will discuss and address the
common challenges faced by girls around the world and consider
how to develop them with Christian values and leadership skills
so that they can become responsible and useful women
contributing to the community, nation and the world.
