“You shall not commit adultery” is the core of
God’s sexual law. Adultery was chosen to
represent this whole area for two reasons.
1) It was the most common sexual sin
2) It was the most destructive sexual sin

1) The seventh commandment uses adultery to
represent sexual sin because it was the most
common and most destructive sexual sin.
2) God intended three purposes for sexual intimacy:
procreation, partnership (putty), and pleasure.
3) The sexual relationship between a husband and
wife is pure, but all other sexual relationships are
perverse.
