The Holy Spirit reveals Jesus Christ and helps believers understand Him. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came to guide the apostles and reveal the truth about Christ after His resurrection. The Spirit convicts believers of sin, enlightens their intellect, and strengthens their faith and hope. By indwelling believers, the Spirit makes their bodies temples of God and glorifies Christ within them.
2. ï âWould it have been better for you to have lived
in the days of our blessed Lord?â
ï âHave you missed much by not being a
contemporary of the incarnate life of God who
walked this earth?â
ï âDid we lose something?â
ï âIs the twentieth century at a disadvantage
being so far removed from Him?â
3. ï John 16:7
âBut I tell you the truth:
It is for your good that I am going away.
Unless I go away, the Counselor will not
come to you; but if I go, I will send him
to you.â
We have lost His corporal presence
but the spiritual presence has taken its place.
4. Do not think that if you had lived in the time of our
blessed Lord that it would have been any easier to
have believed in His divinity then than it would be
to believe in the divinity of His Church now.
âThe Apostles; they did not understand the
meaning of His death until the Holy Spirit
came upon them at Pentecost.â
5. ï Fifty days after the Resurrection at Pentecost the
glorified Jesus Christ poured out the Spirit in
abundance and revealed him as a divine Person so that
the Holy Trinity was fully manifest.
ï The mission of Christ and of the Spirit became the
mission of the Church which is sent to proclaim and
spread the mystery of the communion of the Holy
Trinity.
ï Mary and 12 disciples were present at Pentecost
6. ï The Cenacle on Mount
Zion, claimed to be the
location of the Last
Supper and Pentecost.
ï Bargil Pixner claims the
original Church of the
Apostles is located
under the current
structure.
8. #1 The Holy Spirit reveals the
Son of God, Christ.
Just as the Son revealed the Father, our
Lord said He would send the Holy Spirit to
reveal the Son.
(John 3:16), Philip said to Jesus, âShow us the Father.â

9. ï John 16:13-15
âBut when he, the Spirit of truth, comes,
he will guide you into all truth. He will not
speak on his own; he will speak only what he
hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
He will bring glory to me by taking from what
is mine and making it known to you. All that
belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I
said the Spirit will take from what is mine and
make it known to you.â
10. ï The great role of the Holy Spirit is to stand
behind the scenes to make Christ more real.
Hence, the Apostles did not understand the
Crucifixion until after Pentecost.
ï St. Paul goes so far as to say no one can call
Jesus âLord,â except by the Spirit.
ï If you believe in the divinity of Christ by this
time, it is through the Holy Spirit you believe.
11. ï The Holy Spirit witnesses not to Himself, but to
the Son. Those who have the Spirit understand
Christ.
ï Why do they not know Him?
ï Why do they not have the Spirit? Because they
have not obeyed the law of God.
ï Our Lord said, If you love Me, keep My
Commandments. Then the Holy Spirit will
manifest Himself to us.
12. ï Just as the artist stays outside of the canvas, so
the Holy Spirit is staying outside the Christ, whom
He reveals.
ï Engineers understand engineers; brokers
understand brokers; and students of the same
college understand each other. They all have the
same spirit. They have both the natural and
supernatural spirit of Christ. How do we
understand Christ?
ï We must have the spirit of Christ.
13. The Holy Spirit would convict us of sin,
âThe Spirit will come and it will be for Him to
prove the world wrong about sin. They have not
found belief in Me.â â John 15:25-27
When do we come to a real understanding
of sin? Our Lord says here, through the Holy Spirit.
14. No one really grasps the evil of sin if he thinks
it is just the breaking of a law. When we have
the Spirit of Christ we understand sin is doing
harm to one we love.
The Holy Spirit reveals to us that sin is the refusal
to accept that deliverance purchased by Christ.
Every sinner who has the spirit of Christ always
thinks of sin in relationship to the Crucifixion.
15. It is the Spirit that tells us we are breaking off a
relationship with love. St. Paul tells us as we sin
we crucify Christ anew in our hearts.
The life of a true Christian is not so much
concerned with the avoidance of sin; rather, it is
an attempt to reproduce in ourselves the life of
Christ.
16. 1 Corinthians 6:19
19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples
of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you
have received from God? You are not your own;
How does our body become the temple of God?
ï It is made holy by the indwelling of the
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in our soul.
John 2:19
19 Jesus answered them, âDestroy this temple, and I will
raise it again in three days.â
17. Our Lord has a double glory: one, with the
Father, for He is glorified at the right hand, and
He is glorified in us.
He said, The Holy Spirit shall glorify Me.
The Holy Spirit glorifies Him in us by making us
witnesses to Christ, declaring Him in our mind
and in our actions.
18. 1. He cleanses us from our sins.
2. The Holy Spirit enlightens the intellect, since all
that we know, we know through the Holy Ghost.
3. He assists us and, to a certain extent, compels
us to keep the commandments. No one can
keep the commandments unless he loves God.
4. He strengthens in us the hope of eternal life,
because He is the pledge to us of this our
destiny.
5. He counsels us when we are in doubt, and
teaches us what is the will of God.

21. ï Let the practical result of this
lesson be to pray to the Holy
Spirit that you may know Christ
in the fullness of His gospel and
the love of the Father, that you
may understand He is the
source of power, the Holy Spirit.
