4. Governor Pawlenty’s Online Learning
Initiative
Online Learning Experience Required for High School
Graduation. Under the Governor’s proposal, the state’s high
school graduation standards will require every graduate to
take an online course, participate in an online experience or
participate in online experiences incorporated into other
graduation requirements. The new requirement would take
effect in 2013.

Every school and community will have
a high-speed, broadband, wireless
Internet infrastructure that allows
each student to access a full menu of
online courses, services, and programs
at any time, any place, and any pace.
11. Every teacher will be
trained to use digital
content for instruction and
to have strategies that
increase the problem
solving, collaborative, and
critical-thinking skills of
students, while monitoring
the progress of student
academic growth and
performance.
12. Every teacher will understand how to
manage course progress,
collaboration, new assessment
models, and e-portfolios.

individualize instruction and track data
on student performance.

18. Principles of Online Learning
We are all are potential
teachers and learners –
and, in a true
collaborative
environment, we are
both
We learn particularly
well when creating or
expressing for others
(learn by doing)
Some Principles from Martin Dougiamas, founder of Moodle
20. Principles, cont.
We learn a lot by observing &
interacting with peers
By understanding the context of
others, we teach in a more
transformative way
So, the learning environment
needs to be flexible, adaptive
and responsive to the needs of
learners
