For practical purposes, the project is governed by a council of contributors. A leader
is nominated from this council to act as overall project manager. The role of the
Adempiere Council is to:
• Support decisions of the leader.
• Accept contributions.
• Define the roadmap.
• Review and approve specifications.
• Vote for new functionalities.

• ERP5 is an open source ERP based on Python and Zope. It has the particularity of being
based on a unified Model to describe its implementation.

9. • Recently the project's activity has rapidly declined - commits fell by 70%, the project
wiki is not being edited, and the developers' mailing lists processes 3-4 occasional
emails a month. The project leader is not publishing any announcements about the
project development or plans for the future. At this moment, the status of the projects
is unknown, and its future seems a bit uncertain.

10. • Helium V is an open source ERP suite. It has been developed by Helium V ITSolutions GmbH in Austria starting in 2005. The industry of initial focus has been
electronic manufacturing. The targeted customers are small and medium-sized
companies (SMEs). In this SME context, the evaluation of KPIs is of great
importance, so this is very high on the developer's agenda.
• The software is available as open source since October 2010. It is an integral part of
the Lisog open source stack initiative.

16. • Great Plains corporation developed this ERP software from DOS in the 1980s to
Windows in the 1990s. Great Plains Software purchased Solomon and RealWorld
software prior to its acquisition by Microsoft in 2000-2001. Great Plains discontinued
new sales of RealWorld almost immedately. Microsoft renamed the products from
Great Plains Software Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) and Microsoft
Dynamics SL (Solomon).

17. • Great Plains enjoyed a large market share prior
to the Microsoft acquisition. Microsoft's
purchase of the company gave Microsoft an
instant intalled base in the mid-market ERP
space. Microsoft Dynamics GP supports
industrial distributors, wholesalers, service
companies, and manufacturers well. It is a
horizontal package, with partners that have
developed add-on modules to provide vertical
market functionality. Since GP is a wellaccepted product with a history in the US, there
are many of these products to choose from.
• The current GP product provides a variety of
API products to assist developers who need to
extend the product in exporting and importing
data. This includes a web service API as well as
traditional export / import.
Weaknesses of Microsoft Dynamics GP
• As with many products developed
primarily in the US, many observers
considered the multi-currency and
international support in the product
weaker than other competitors in the
market space. Dynamics GP was
developed in a little-known (except among
its followers) language called Dexterity. It
has a reputation of being somewhat
difficult to develop in.
• Customization of the GP product by the
end user is limited. Microsoft has moved
the GP look and feel to the RTC (role
tailored client) model introduced in 2009
with Dynamics NAV.

18. Sage 300 ERP

• Sage 300 ERP (ACCPAC) has a long history, beginning as a DOS based product in
the 1980s. At that time, the product contained a core of accounting and business
management functionality that rivaled competitors.
18
19. Strengths & Weaknesses of Sage 300
ERP
• ACCPAC has a good core collection of modules. It
is particularly strong in distribution, inventory, and
general accounting. The Job Cost (Project and Job
Cost) has improved dramatically since it's first
release and works well for some industries needing
project or job costing. Add ons are generally used
for other functionality such as manufacturing,
service, and warehousing.
• ACCPAC is very solid, and has good quality control
on service packs. Data corruption is rare to nonexistant in current versions. The number of
databases supported is wide, and Sage is moving
toward industry leading technologies with GWT and
Sdata. This movement corrects the weaknesses in
the former development environments. It will be
several versions before these technologies are fully
implemented.
Weaknesses of Sage 300 ERP
• Throughout its history, it has relied on
independent software developers to provide
functionality that the core product lacked. In
previous versions, this also included such core
functionality as serial numbers, manufacturing,
and warehousing. Recently, Sage has acquired
several of these products and integrated them into
the core product, strengthening the offering.
However, there are areas in which ACCPAC is
still catching up from a features standpoint.
Careful needs analysis will reveal whether needed
functionality is needed.
