Affordable Healthcare For Americans
1. 10.2% Unemployment National Debt The estimated population of the United States is 307,264,431 so each citizen's share of this debt is $39,036.69.
2. How the Government Handles YOUR Money: Medicare: BROKE Social Security: BROKE Post Office: BROKE
3. Included in the “Affordable Health Care for America Act” HR 3962 1990 pages (that’s a whole lot of trees to you environmentalists) “Regulation" appears 181 times. "Tax" is there 214 times and "Fees," 103 times. “Shall" is included more than 3,400 times.
4. Per H.R. 3962, If you fail to purchase a government approved health insurance policy you will pay a fine OR: Section 7201 – “felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3] Joint Committee on Taxation.
5. How will we pay for this? 500 billion in cuts to Medicare (A program that is already broke. What will happen to our seniors?) According to the AP: “Seniors would pay $49 billion in higher premiums over the next decade as a result of legislation headed for a House vote that raises fees for doctors treating Medicare patients, according to an estimate by congressional budget officials.” http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jxBlXL2PdI9MY8ABYzh6XNXLFAygD9C1J5IG0 Expansion of Medicaid Programs (State run….wonder how your state will afford it? See next slide!)

9. Healthcare Rationing in the UK “Of course, UK health care is cheap. We spend less on health care than does any comparable nation, but the cheapness of the NHS is subsidised by the exhaustion and demoralisation of the staff and by the second-rate service it so often provides. It is the cheapness of the miser who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. And it is a cheapness that demeans patients as supplicants and which hides the medical realities of rationing from them. “ IEA Health and Welfare Unit,Choice in Welfare No. 55 Delay, Denial and Dilution:The Impact of NHS Rationing on Heart Disease and Cancer
10. Government Panels decide who gets care: In the UK, NICE (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) “sets a threshold for cost-effectiveness that it applies uniformly: It has decided that Britain should spend the same amount saving or improving the life of a 75-year-old smoker as it would a five year-old. If a treatment is found to cost more than about $30,000-$45,000 per “quality-adjusted life year,” it is rarely covered. This approach has led to the denial of valuable care” http://www.heritage.org/Research/HealthCare/wm2154.cfm
11. Healthcare Rationing USA This week a government panel issued a recommendation that women begin mammograms at age 50 instead of the American Cancer Society’s recommendation that mammograms begin at 40. Per the Washington Post: “The new recommendations took on added significance because under health-care reform legislation pending in Congress, the conclusions of the 16-member task force would set standards for what preventive services insurance plans would be required to cover at little or no cost.”
12. Key Findings from the 2008 Health Tracking Study Physician Survey Slightly more than half of physicians (53%) reported their practices were accepting all or most new Medicaid patients; 28 percent reported accepting no new Medicaid patients. Almost nine in 10 physicians (87%) reported their practices were accepting all or most new privately insured patients. http://www.hschange.com/CONTENT/1078/ (In other words, you have a difficult time finding a doctor if you have Medicaid, due to poor government reimbursement of doctors under the plan).
13. Massachussetts Universal Coverage According to an article by Michael D Tanner, “How Not to Reform Healthcare” since the program became law, insurance premiums have been increasing by 10 to 12 percent per year, nearly double the national average. On average, health insurance costs $16,897 a year for a family of four in Massachusetts, compared to $12,700 nationally. Meanwhile, total health-care spending in the state has increased by 28 percent. http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=10279
15. November 2009 The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 45% now favor the health care plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. Most (52%) remain opposed. Only 25% Strongly Support the plan while 42% are Strongly Opposed. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/current_events/healthcare/september_2009/health_care_reform
17. “Let me be exactly clear about what health care reform means to you.” First of all, if you’ve got health insurance, you like your doctors, you like your plan, you can keep your doctor, you can keep your plan. Nobody is talking about taking that away from you.”
18. "A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House." --BARACK OBAMA "I have not said that I was a single payer supporter...." --BARACK OBAMA
19. H. R. 3962Page 94 1 (c) LIMITATION ON INDIVIDUAL HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE.— (1) IN GENERAL.—Individual health insurance coverage that is not grandfathered health insurance coverage under subsection (a) may only be offered on or after the first day of Y1 as an Exchange-participating health benefits plan.
20. The Evil Insurance Industry President Obama: There have been reports just over the last couple of days of insurance companies making record profits, right now," Obama said during a prime-time news conference. At a time when everybody's getting hammered, they're making record profits, and premiums are going up. What's the constraint on that? ... Well, part of the way is to make sure that there's some competition out there.”
21. According to Yahoo Finance, Profit Margins by Industry shows the industry "Health Care Plans" ranks #86 by profit margin (profits/revenue) at 3.3%. Measured by profit margin, there are 85 industries more profitable than Health Care Plans
22. Fun with Math According to the Center for American Progress, there are over 1,000 private Health Insurance Companies in the United States In Minnesota, 9 HMO’s are allowed to “compete” for your business, all of them functioning as NON-PROFIT corporations. ( 4 of those companies make up 80% of the market share) If the Government joined in with their “public option” that would leave us 10 choices. Due to over regulation, insurance companies are not allowed to sell across state lines. Would you increase competition by adding 1 (government) insurance company or 1000 companies to the list of those competing for your business? You do the math! 1000 > 10
23. What about the 46 Million people without Health Insurance? In 2007, 17.6 million of the uninsured had annual incomes of more than $50,000 and 9.1 million earned more than $75,000 Census Bureau data shows that 9.7 million of the uninsured are not citizens of the United States http://www.census.gov/prod/2008pubs/p60-235.pdf In 2003, a BlueCross BlueShield Association study estimated that about 14 million of the uninsured were eligible for Medicaid and SCHIP http://spectator.org/archives/2009/03/20/the-myth-of-the-46-million
24. Just thoughts: We should fix what is truly broken!!! Most Americans support legislation that would address health care coverage for those who truly cannot afford it. We should NOT: Allow government takeover of private industry, bankrupt our country, ruin health care for everyone! We are better than this!!!
