2. The Peloponnese or Peloponesus (Greek : Πελοπόννησος Pelopónnisos ) is a large peninsula and region in southern Greece, forming the part of the country south of the Gulf of Corinth. The peninsula is divided among three distinct peripheries of modern Greece: most of the Peloponnese and parts of the West Greece and Attica peripheries. Messinia An extended shoreline with beaches, picturesque inlets, mountain villages covered in greenery, a mild climate, tranquil nature, a castle, monasteries, fertile plains and green-capped hills can be seen almost anywhere in this part of the Peloponnese. It is worth a visit. Messinia is washed by the Messinian Gulf and the Ionian Sea, while, to the east, it borders with Laconia; and Arcadia and Eleia to the north.
