The TYPO3 Association is a non-profit organization and was founded in 2004 to provide funds for long-term development goals, that would not be possible otherwise. Since then it has been able to draw about 770 members, companies and freelancers alike. The funds are coming from membership fees, donations and the annual TYPO3 conference in Europe. Everyone can apply for funding for his or her project, as long as it provides substantial and sustained value to the project and it‘s users. Among the development efforts funded by the Association are various improvements to TYPO3 CMS (Version 4.x) and the development of TYPO3 NEOS.
Recently the structure of the TYPO3 Association, thus also the bylaws, were changed to a much more transparent and democratic organization. Now we have three bodies, all elected by the association members and a defined budget process.
The TYPO3 Universe in addition is a complex entity, consisting of teams, user groups, lots of events and enthusiasts. Recently the TYPO3 community started to discuss a centralized team meeting of representatives of all teams. The community manager plays a central role in this universe and is also funded by the TYPO3 Association.
Get an insight in the TYPO3 Universe and see how the TYPO3 Association works, what their purpose is and how it is incorporated in the TYPO3 universe.
4. History
In November 2004 a group of people from the TYPO3
community consisting of Kasper Skårhøj, René Fritz,
Robert Lemke, Daniel Hinderink, Dan Frost, Adrian
Zimmermann, Dominic Brander and Christian Jul Jensen
founded the TYPO3 Association.
The basic idea was to raise money through membership
fees to pay for long-term development, that sponsors
with their short-term goals would not be willing to fund.
