Attack on Federal Reserve Bank NYC
     Thwarted
A suspect has been arrested for allegedly
plotting to attack the Federal Reserve
building in New York City on Wednesday.
     ABC reports federal authorities and
NYPD foiled his plans with an organized
sting operation in which the man parked
a van he thought was carrying explosives
     near the Lower Manhattan building.
The man then attempted to set off the
fake explosives from the Millenium Hotel
     using a cell phone.
     Sources say an undercover
agent provided the man with the
     explosives after meeting online.
The FBI has identified the suspect as
a 21-year-old from Bangladesh. The man
lives inLong Island and is believed to
     have acted alone.

“…the responsibility for city development ultimately falls to city
authorities. And they, in turn, cannot succeed without the support of the
private sector and society in general. “

The need for a long-term and holistic view

 Positive trend towards increasing prevention
 However, prevention alone cannot fully address the complete risk landscape
 Detection, Response and Recovery from events should not be neglected in times of lean budgets

Effective Emergency Communications

Most Commonly Referred to As „Mass Notification‟

 Inform or Notify – Building occupants and key personnel are alerted
to WHAT is happening and WHERE it is occurring

 Provide Instruction – Notification is only effective if it gives direction
on how to act or what to do

 Verify – Critical communications require verification that messages
are heard, understood and acted upon

Safe Cities with the private sector
Building the sustainable city vision together

The Sustainable city Leverage existing and newer technologies with
                                 services to:

           Inclusive
Turn safety and security into a “positive equalizer”
 Reduce polarization - no more “wrong side of town”
 Bring businesses closer to labor pools
                                       Foster Community engagement initiatives

           Responsible
Make wise choices for the future (risks, desired outcome)
                                      Support other City initiatives
 Role in National security and economic wealth

           Competitive
                                 Capitalize on positive communication:
 Show efficiency improvements based on hard facts
 Drive city funding and investments
